AMMS+EIN!!!For all you R+ fans, here's a coverart I made on my own for the song "Hilf Mir" on their newest album- Rosenrot. The song was based on a Geman folktale where a girl burns herself playing with matches while her cats sit and watch her. Made in Photoshop CS2, the cat eye, girl, and fire were all separate images. ![]() Hilf Mir Lyrics I also made one for the song "Weißes Fleisch" from the Herzeleid album [Quick German lesson: ß = ss]. It's a bit more graphic- it has blood and naked body, so I'll just link y'all there. Original image was just the body, I photoshopped in all scratches and blood. Weißes Fleisch Coverart Weißes Fleisch Lyrics Sorry tommo, I just love me Rammstein. XP |

Why, of course good comrad! Watercolor Pencils The flamethrowing one was my first serious rendering attempt with colored pencil, so I didn't know exactly what I was doing, but oviously start with lightest colors first and progress to darker. With the flamethrower, I was using these cool "watercolor pencils" where you can use them with water to do some cool combining of watercolor and penciling techniques. I didnt know what I was doing, so after doing the whole thing with the pencils dry, i grabbed a wet brush and tried smearing everything so it looked smooth. Didnt work so well. You were supposed to either wet the tip of the pencil and draw, wet the paper and draw, or wet a brush and rub the pencil on it to get color on the brush. Digital Painting The digital one, I was just screwing around- I dont like it that much. Talk to Comlock- he's wayway better at digital painting. Although I did learn from doing the treehouse pic how to limit your pallette. When it comes to coloring scenes from imagination rather than copying, I find that I pick colors too far apart. It often looks much better when the colors are more similar. I'm not saying that you can only use shades of one color, but be careful not to make unintentionally clashing colors. The 3rd pic, the watercolor, was straight from the imagination, I dont like it really either. Seems like the only good stuff I do it copying XP Colored Pencils!! I'ma skip to the cherries because I drew that one first. I borrowed a book from a friend on colored pencilling, and it was REALLY good. I followed a step-by-step thing to make the cherry picture and I learned a lot. First off, with colored pencils, DONT use black for shading. You shouldn't use t unless you really must, but not for shading. Rather, use the opposite color of the thing you are shading. Well, first off, I outlined the cherries very lightly and outlined the highlights so I wouldn't color in where there was supposed to be white. Then I layed down the dark shadng with "Indigo Blue"- a dark blue. Then I colored the base color layer of the cherries with a brightish red. The key to real-looking colored pencilling is LAYERING. Don't be afraid to slap one color over another one. Layering also allows you to adjust the color, if you think later it needs to be yellowish- then lightly put some yellow on top. Well, dk blue and bright red weren't enough, so I deepened the cherries with "Tuscan red"- another dark color. The stems were a base of light green with Indigo BLue as the shader again, with a bit of Tuscan red for the opposite-color effect. The shading was an assortment of many colors, green was one as you can see. White Pencils?? If youll notice, I've made a new paragraph here. That means there is a cool new subject deserving its own section. White colored pencils!! I know when you got crayolas in elementary school, you always said "WTF are the white pencils for??" They are for awesome!!! Rubbing a layer of white pencil over a finished colored object gives it a smooth, blended, glossy look. If you've ever used a tortillon with graphite pencils, it's kinda like that. Just use circular motion and smoooth out all them ugly strokes. Also, if you press hard [or maybe try dip the tip in water if using watercolor pencils] you can actually lay some solid-looking white on top of color, say if you accidentally colored where a highlight was supposed to go [I actually colored over where the handle was to go on the car, but after a bit of hard work with white pencil, I was able to put it in]. Im gonna bring you back a bit to general coloring- reflections add a new height of realism. If you look on the cherries, notice there is not just a highlight spot reflecting the light, there is also a reflection of the white suface on the bottom of the cherries. And then there is some red reflection of the cherries on the white surface! This reflection stuff looks especially cool in the chrome bits on the car. Sweet bjeezus, I'm turning into kiB! |
