another quick question...the paint splatter effect...did u make it or u find it as a texture, or did u create the texture using actual paint and photograph it?

Well, basically, I got some black spray paint and made some different markings and scanned them. Then in PS, I did a Levels adjustment and copied the contents into the mask of a Solid Color layer. Then I invert the mask to make it appear correctly.

I then copied that layer into my monkey PSD. In this case, I made it white and orange. But, I didn't do the spray paint just for this shirt. I just happened to have scanned a bunch of different markings to use as custom brushes and base layers. It just happened to come in handy for when this project popped up today.

What does it say on the screen? Is it a program error? is that why the gorilla is pissed off? lol it'd be funny if it was.

one thing though, the second pic (for the back) looks like the gorilla has no hair, and realising that it it the same gorilla as the front isnt overly evident at first. I realised it was him cuz he got pissed off, but he sorta looks bald. But still its no biggy, cuz the fact that the art work is so fucking brilliant makes one ignore that minor issue.

Yeah, he's way different. I just was having fun really and wanted his pseudo muscles to be more pronounced. So, I decided to kill the hair. Ultimately, there are a great many problems with this, but I couldn't afford too much time spent on it.

To Commie:
What's your brush opacity set at?

Most of the time 100%. And when im blending colours and adding more details I have it on 50% (I have flow always on set on 100%)

And I usaly use these brushes in different sizes:

And In the brush settings I have the "opacity jitter" set to "off" instead of "pen pressure" (wich is default for those brushes anyway)

I'd realy love to know how you do it.

Thanx alot Bleego!=)

What? I didnt know there was a "brush tip shape" option in ps
I never noticed it before^^

And I never used the "pen pressure" thing for the opacity of the brush, becasue I started using photoshop with a mouse, and never got away from that habit.

I gotta get used to that pressure sensetivity thing though. It shure made it ALOT easier to edit the painting while you're working on it. *smacks hand into forehead*

(some quick mindless abstractlooking art. Playing around with the new brush settings. This was fun^^)

By the by, for anyone who cares, I use the same brush but reeeallly big to rough out the color, then it gets progressively smaller as I move closer to detailing.

Hey Arthur, about the messyness you were talking about... do you use brushes with both variable size and opacity at the same time? I have found that when painting in PS it is much easier to blend when you use variable brush size and use variable opacity, but avoid using them both at the same time, this makes blending harder.

I also allways define a minimum size if I use soft brushes, sometimes when I stroke from big to small you tend to get messyness with soft brushes, well, I do atleast so setting the minimum size to a higher value helps.

Another thing that might help to get smoother blending with hard brushes is by lowering the flow of the brush, try setting it to 25% it's a nice balance.

Ps: Does anyone know how mr Hurri blends skintones like this? I've allways wondered...

That thing is massive!!! Really, I'm too humbled to say anything bad about it, then again what is there to say about it? Seems you've improved in your CG paints in comparison to a few months ago. Fatsack salute!

To Eye:

That's the settings for my main brush. Other's vary greatly. But, this brush typically makes up 70-90% of the image in most of my work.

For example, for the Ape, it's the only brush used. The spray paint is scanned.

---------Edit:

Naturally, I vary it's size allot within a piece.

Oh well, such is life.

It's in the Brushes palette. They don't all show at once. I had to take multiple screen grabs and put them together....

Damn. Hey, why don't you throw the design up on your cafe press store? I'm sure that would do well on a mousepad :)

Oh, and can you upload the winning entry so we can all comment on how much better yours is, subsequently winning enough favour for a bleego brush tute? :D

Actually, reading through all these requests for tutes, can we just have a strand of your genetic code so we can splice it into our own? Or maybe a brain scan/transfer might work better - to save time and stuff.

Sorry, won't be showing that here. Wouldn't be kosher. But, I will say that it was a gun shooting pixels. Perhaps some folks just don't like apes.

Anywho, the Design Team saw it mine and asked if I'd do their shirt. So, he's my shirt for them (their idea):

BTW, I'll be putting my ape on Cafe Press soon, just need to change the text.

Edit:

Did this for the back:

perhaps the paper should be in the middle on the back to follow the sequence on the front? I'd think about making that rock a bit more angular too, it looks like a scrumpled piece of paper at the mo

nice design but :D

EDIT: I imagine it’s all office politics ego, I bet that other dude's been there for a while and did some campaigning, no?

Yeah, I had them in order first, but I didn't like the way it looked. I like using the edges of the paper and sissors to point down to the words. Plus, since you obviously can't see both sides at the same time, I think it'll be alright.

You're right about the rock. Perhaps the black in-cutting lines don't help either. I'll revisit it if I have time.

For now i'm gonna wait to see what they say. I'm freakin slammed with work, so it's a miracle that I even had time to do this.

Sorry to hear you're so busy. Still enjoying work though or is it a pain in the ass?

I just thought of an idea, you could have the scissors on the back broken and mangled, the paper cut up into ribbons, and with the rock taking centre stage as the winning element it would subconsciously suggest that the design team 'rock'
