CLiNK, in your reference photo u can clearly see a huge white shine on his head, take things like this into account when wondering why your picture looks flat.
and obviously you couldnt be bothered drawing his shiny jacket but you drew it just all black, u could have added a few creases or sumthing, which would have darker lines and highlights.

You're right about the shine, completely missed my eye, the nose is also wrong. As for the jacket I was going for a monochromatic look hence the very dark reds. More practice for me yet :bing:

Thats a good idea Malak. I think when i first start trying to learn to paint in photo shop im going to try and recreate parts of other pictures for practice like you did with the X men picture.

I used my own hand for reference.. then I took a tutorial and coloured it in :D

what do you guys think?

nice, but i think your problem was u had the proportions wrong from the start, and u jsut went right in there and started drawing, without having the basic layout and sizes of joints etc. even if u have to start with lines or sumthing, theres nothing wrong with that, jsut make them the right size, then work up from there. for example, lines then u draw the outlines of the fingers, then wrinkles etc.

Also it is helpful to have a strong light source coming from one angle, so u can see strong highlights and shadowed areas.

Nice lighting there Espen! Looks like a real fire-light. The rest is a little dodgy, and not up to ur usual standard :P. Good work on the lighting

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I made a PS painting. Originally hand-drawn then done on Photoshop. I don't know how to get that rustic look... Maybe I should use Corel Painter more haha.

I apologize for the shockily bad background.. I will do a proper carribean scene soon.

Good neo, but the foot on the proped-up leg could use some reworking. I think most of the confuesion i am having is because you didn't give any reference to his leg being on anything, besides the picture border. I think you just need to extend the bottom border down a slight bit so you can see under his foot so you have a way to to figure out that contact point.

Otherwise its great, i like the expressions of both of them, im not entirely sure why the bearded pirate is upset, but, being them pirates, i don't really question it.

to me it looks like he jsut took the sitting ones drink. one thing i noticed, the sitting one has a missing leg. on the left. I like the coloring one the pants, looks really nice man! but yeh i agree with everyone u could show us mroe what is happening in it. more actions on the guy standing up.

I agree with the foot thing. I was going to do that, but i.. dont actually know why i didn't hehe.

The stadning pirate is meant to be "breathing in the sea air" and the sitting guy is just an angry pirate... Graaaw!

Hello All,

I brand new to this forum. There are quite a few very talented artist here. Thought I would post a drawing of my own (3 actually, same image at different stages of completion)

One

Two

Three

This drawing was originally done at the request of someone on the Elder Scrolls Oblivion Forum and is based off of a custom character from that game.

I'm posting it here because your community seems very helpful and I would like to receive some constructive criticism.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum Hadone2many, and your picture is good. Though, i agree with smoscar, you need to blend it better to give a gradient look on the chest of his armor, but, overall, good job.

Welcome one2many,
You show some skill, jsut keep workin on it, try more hand drawn things instead of jsut gradients etc, always ends up looking better.

Good luck!
