Here are some bits and pieces from a few to two years ago... Inspired by the Edgar Allan Poe poem: The Raven ![]() Inpired by my favorite video game series: "Sly Cooper" ![]() Inpired By a Dream I had, in which all of my worst dreams were caught in a dream catcher, I named the drawing Traum Fanger, ask siggy for the translation- He'll know... ![]() Im still working on it, so if anyone has suggestions for what to put in the blank space- fire away! tr

I couldn't disagree more. The flash-of-inspiration ideas are often best for me, but you need to spend time refining the idea no matter where it came from. Edit: Interesting stuff Calcifer. I like the very self-contained palette on the "poetry" page. |

A little piece I just did... Took me about 50 minutes or so... Inspired of the "Magic The Gathering" card Wrath of God, which I used to have. Even though I didn't know how to play, I loved this card, it made me feel all powerful or something. Feel free to comment, criticize... All that. :] Here it goes, The WRATH OF ALEXSMOLIK !!!

What a dramatic scene!--- Magic was forbidden in our household. There's a TON of detail in there, Alex--- and it's just begging to be toned and shaded. I can see that your main sense of lighting is coming from the gradient fills--- but you can bring out a whole new spectrum of depth by going through and shading/highlighting with a brush. A quick paint-over using multiply and soft light layers in photoshop: ![]() You could have a really great drawing here if you decide to polish it.

Thanks Calcifer and akpaintslinger! And HOLY MOTHER OF GOD, ak ! What you did added SO MUCH to the drawing, dude! It literally changed it. One of the reasons I didn't add shading to it, is because it was made in flash, and I was far too lazy to do it. I admit. I'm the kind of person that, sadly, likes to finish things as fast as possible to show the others lol. But I'll definitely consider adding some shades in there!! it looks like a whole new pic... Sadly I'm not really good at Photoshop ... <_< And oh, I didn't even KNOW how to play Magics... I just collected the cards because it was the big hype thing to do in my school at the time lol... I didn't know the rules and how to play... Meh ... So Here's the new version, following ak's advices:

Looking good alex, the shading is deffintly helping, but the black shape around the moon is still fighting for the most attention since its the only truely dark value you have in your drawing. Your starting to develop those darks in the corners of the page and it working out well, but i would also try lightening that black shape to something a little more gray. or making the edges of it less defined. It might also help to make the edge sort of sketchy, as thats the line quality of the rest of the piece and might help it fit better. Your deffinitly getting there though, keep it up! |

I really wouldn't lighten up the black shape! it would steal the essence of it. It's a white ball on a black background. It's voluntarily supposed to steal all your attention and you focus on it, as Calcifer says, it really IS the Wrath of God. You're bound to focus on it, it's somewhat hypnotizing too, you have to wonder "What the hell is that...". I think that if I lightened it up, it would be far too common and it would fit with the clouds. However, I might consider making the edges less defined... But I don't have the new Flash with the blur tool. And don't really know how to blur specific items in Photoshop without using a whole layer (and there's only one in my drawing!). Here's my new creation ... Hope you like it. I made it for this girl I like.. I think she likes me too, well, I know she does. But she isn't "ready" to start something serious. Meh. I'll wait... So here it is, entirely in Photoshop. LOADS of layers. Thumbnail: ![]() FullSize |

I've started the Boo Radley abstraction now
, and should be nearing completion within the next 4-5 days. It is not unlikely that I will be posting day by day progress, just to make sure that it is at its best.

things like this are too overdone..... skulls being crushed, flesh being ripped off someones face, severed heads etc etc Try to think of something original, coz to be honest ur coloring wouldnt matter that much if you had a good concept, and took longer on it, this looks like it was rushed in about 5 minutes, considering the sulls not even proportioned, the size between the right eye and right side of head is like 20 times what the left eye is to the left side of the head... Also i can barely make out what's happening |

Some people are still in the early stages of learning & could use more constructive criticism; Prometheus, I'm sure you'll hear this anywhere, but try drawing "through" the object. Think of that skull as one solid object, then draw your vertical & horizontal center lines in order to accurately line facial features up. A helpful reminder in proportioning the eyes is that they're generally wide enough for 5 of them to fit snugly across the face. Once you have your form down, your coloring technique will become much more clear. I'd look up an artist that you like & study what's going on in their work. Not just look at it, but really analyze what is going on & why you think it works. From there it's practice....art is a muscle in your brain that will only grow with excersise & a proper brain food diet KF |
