Fludd, may I recommend making your signature smaller? When it's nearly the same size of your piece, it really takes away from it.....making it more discrete will put the focus on the art rather than your name.

Haha I thought the same thing, I find it best to hide it as much as possible, use colors similar to the colors behind it so it dusnt stand out and make it smalll lol

Cwork ur portrait isnt too bad, very messy lol but i like the style, kinda hard to crit with such a shoddy foto of it, take a look at these portraits I did just before, If you can pick out mistakes from mine you will learn to not make them and also look at the hair on mine, hair is a vital part of a portrait, without it the person looks lifeless, or if its scratched in all one color, its even worse.

If you cant see how to fix yours take a look at these pints on mine.
- Hair is not all one color, or single strands of hair, it is just highlights among dark tones.
- Eyes are not semi circles or elipses
- Don't define the edges of lips with dark lines, it never ever looks right, and in fact I've found with some portraits im like, wtf that looks nothing like the person, im shit, and then i take away the dark line around the lips and make it so it sort of blends into the face around it, and it looks 100% better.

You will also notice my faces look very flat, sorry for that, but it was jsut a quick thing, you need shadows around the eyes, cheek bones, one side of the face, etc.

K here are my portraits:

Hey thanks for the crits.

Tom Conger gave me some really good advice. To use the side of my pencil rather than the tip for shading. It is my first, so i essentially was just experimenting. I'm going to be doing a lot more in the future so hopefully they'll be better.

Great as always Diesel man. The wand one is excellent, great expression. I liked the reptile apathy one too, it looks a little more flat than your other stuff but it is still appealing. How long would one of these usually take you by the way?

Thankyou man. :) much appreciated.
Hehe.. the Reptile one looks flat probably because I didn't shade it with pencil, instead I tried colour pen [I had given up on the drawing so took the risk of ruining it with colour]
I was very.. despondent about the picture.. I think it shows.. I think the sheer hopelessness of it is the only thing that gives it substance.
I used colour on the wand too but it was pencil so there's depth..
The colour versions are on my site.. glad you like the expression.. took a few attempts to get it right...

The time it takes varies.. i've never really counted.
I'd say..
5-10 minutes to sketch out the general figure of the drawing..
10 minutes going over it strongly and changing things if necessary.
15 minutes going over it in pen..
5-10 minutes shading..
5 minutes polishing it off

Yeah, about an hour each one.. but I do several at a time, I stretch it over a couple days.. some are still waiting to be pulled out my sketchbook and finished..
It really varies on how much I wanna put into a drawing.
