That reminds me a little of Doctor Seuss, tsninjapirate! It must've taken forever to fill in all of those color blocks! :P

Is this piece based on an idea? What were you trying to communicate? The piece is hard to comprehend, even on an abstract level.

Have a clear idea in your head even before you start the work. Your time and effort are valuable things--- make sure they are spent wisely, on defining your concepts, or bettering your skills.

Here's the problem - I had no idea what I was actually going to draw when I started - I just listened to music and started my hand flowing and brushing this way and that until some definite shapes appeared, then I started to build upon those shapes - I thought that it would look better with a bracketed support structure, which for whatever reason turned out to involve yellow girders. Afterwards I started putting line-tooled grids in between other sections, but they looked somewhat messy so I decided to fill them in with first randomised, then more logical geometric coloured patterns. I'd say I spent maybe 2-4 hours doing those coloured blocks making sure none of the same colours were touching each other.

2-4 hours? That's dedication. I don't know what it is about it but it seems to really mess my head up.

Please tell me what you think! I really hope it's not too confusing... I've gone through several revisions of this one.

universities just take your cash or something along those lines .
There is a lot of symbolism behind these illustrations. To be honest, I was stump at first then it sunk in time. The giant mask they were hiding behind and the big money bags :bfoot: Keep it up and ill check your deviant account. I wish to see the other revisions and what else have you been hiding from me. The first 4 panels !PERFECT!

The first 4 panels !PERFECT!

You're right, I made some mistakes on the last two panels. I should've focused the image more on the girl who sees something and points it out the guy in front of her in panel 5. And in panel 6, I should've probably made the people bigger relative to the mask, so that it's clearer.

I recently changed my original post with one other minor edit; editing down the girl's line in panel 5 (the "look!" was redundant because she's already pointing in that direction).

The revisions are generally nothing drastic. The last panel was changed the most. Here are some successive versions:

Original "finished" version:

Version 2 (words in 3rd panel removed, because they seemed redundant):

After a friend complained that the connection between the last two panels was unclear:

Slightly fewer words:

And fewer:

Now the sign at the last panel is gone; I thought there probably too much information in the last panel:

And finally, the version you see in the post above.

Get OUT!!!! :bing:

The circuit is now complete!!

What a great job you've done on the lighting and smoothing! Top notch, my friend!

The stage left leg looks a little strange the way it's bent. Also, you might go in with a fine brush and touch up the detail on the helmet. Compared to the rest of the piece, it lacks sharpness.

An easy way is to just blow up the piece to a higher resolution so you can work more precisely.

Here's something I made for a school art class, only had less than a week to do it, so some bits are a bit rushed, but anyways I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.

Is it okay that I laughed at that? It just looked so comical when he was looking back at the canvas to make sure he was lined up correctly. Very nice work though, especially for how long it took you.

Those are AMAZING, Nick! I absolutely love the way you draw! I'll definitely be checking out your website in the near future.

I think that your drawings (toned down a little) would be perfect for children's storybooks. Some of the most creative art out there can be found in storybooks (children aren't as averse to new ideas as adults are, so the art can be more unconventional. Yet because it has to be simple enough for children, the artist must really focus on getting his message across effectively).

Here's another comic that I did:

On Deviantart over here.

This one's done in a very different style from the previous ones, though the same materials were used.

Esn, it's good, but in the second and 5th panels, the thumbs are on the wrong sides of his hands. :D

:P

I noticed the 5th panel, but not the 2nd. Well, I guess it kinda fits with the mood anyway. It was an experiment at doing things quickly, with no slowing down to say "that's wrong". Typically, my comics are somewhat methodical and thought-out (which is still my preferred method).

Can't say that it wasn't more fun to do, though - I just don't like the end result quite as much.

@ Yex- Behold the powers of Photoshop! Good to see ya playing around with it a bit :P (cute turtle)

@ Combined- Nice edit, very mystical feel about it (That metroid paint is f***ing brilliant)

@ Brakken- Wow! That's bloody brilliant for paint with a mouse! Get yourself a tablet.

@ Esn- I love your comments, very well thought out. You would make a great political cartoonist :)
