Illustration Activity Series B #11
Tag Team Rework

The Challenge:

Take another forum member’s piece, rework and improve it.

The Due Date:

February 28, 2006 EST

The Medium and Colors:

User’s choice, but full color scores higher, typically.

The Rules:

  1. As always, you must post sketches first and get feedback.
Let's get everyone involved, even if they aren't entering.
  2. You must post a piece for others to rework in order to enter.
  3. You must provide reasons for your choices in the rework.
(IE – Tell us why to choose to change something.)

The Point:

To develop critiquing skills, analyze others work and be able to improve on it.

The Examples:

That's up to you! ;)

The Advice:

This contest is about identifying problems in other’s work, so that you can then see it in your own. So, look at the piece carefully and consider the purpose of it and how it is or isn’t achieving that purpose. Is the composition messy? Are the colors inappropriate? Did the artist not push imagery as far as it could be taken?

Consider everything about the piece and then select the areas that need improving. Then draw. And draw again. You typically won’t fix everything in the first try. So do thumbnails and keep refining the piece. Be open to critiques and revisions, and then use your judgment to combine the best aspects of all into your final piece. Make it sparkle.

This comp is 1 ½ months long. So be diligent. More than one person can select the same piece, but it’s best not to. You have a better chance of winning if you’re doing something different that your competitors. Good luck!

The Prize:

Here are the full ranks of Bad-Ass Illustrators. You rise to the next rank by winning an additional Illustration Activity. You'll be able to place this in your signature or where ever you like. Click the pencil to see the accompanying certificate.

Rank 1 - The Pencil

Rank 2 - The Pen

Rank 3 - The Brush

Rank 4 - The Non-Photo Blue Pencil

and the grandaddy of them all...
Rank 5 - The Wacom Stylus

And without further ado, the winner of the

Side Note:
The SWF Awards are now pointing to an old file. When my harddrive died, I lost the FLA and PSD for the Pencil awards and the certificate. I need to recreate them and change the links. Afterwhich, they'll being linked to the Illustration Activity Archive and it'll be easier for me to update while out of town or at work (which has been a big reason why I've been so aweful about anounce the winners).

So are we allowed to take a piece from anywhere in the Illustration/Animation forum? or only the "Look at my Stuff" thread?

No, no, no. Only images posted in This Thread. So, if you want to enter, post an image of yours for someone to rework. Then you can select an image posted by someone else in this thread. ;)

Okay Rade,

Here's one for you to work over. Take the elements and change it up. Think "more dynamic camera angle." Think "fix that wack perspective." Think "wtf? I thought kib was better than that?"

I have your fire wizard and I'll work him over good.

And nice stuff, Colesif!
