Hey Cel.... 15 minutes to midnight by my clock, that $5.00 can be payed via paypal man, thanks!![]() Well this one was really hard to judge. The entries were unbelievable, but here goes... There were some real quality submissions, but the three that really stood out were CantDraw, Cel, and Vectors entries. While CantDraws was very eye pleasing to watch, and very well done indeed, it didnt have the technical complexity that Cel and Vec incorporated into their entries. Cel's entry was amazing. At only 29k I am amazed that he not only completed the competitions required elements, but also included other effects elements to help round out his entry. Vec's entry is beyond what I expected to see from an AS based effect, even coming from him. Weighing in at only 8k, it is a truly awesome combination of actionscript and animation. So after much cursing and swearing and comparing of the two, I finally said screw it and we have a tie for this comp! That gives Vec his first win in the SFX series and his first level banner: And being as this is Cels second win in the series, he gets his butt guru-fied! Congrats to both of ya! Excellent work! And with that out of the way its time for the newest exercise to challenge your skills, or at least alleviate some boredom! This time your challenge is to: Fire Me Up!! For this exercise you must depict a fire starting from a spark, and gradually growing into a full roaring blaze. What you want to burn, and how you go about it is as usual all up to your own discretion. However the base rules below must be adhered to: Them Rules The core scene must show item(s) that will be burned. All entries can be animated with whatever program you choose to use, however final entries must be submitted as .swf. Screen size is to be set at 500 pixels wide by 300 pixels high. Animations MUST include a foreground and a background element. Final entries must be posted to this thread no later then Febuary 20th, 2006 to be eligible.Judging will be based upon the best use of effects in order to create the scene as closely as described. Good luck to you all! Them Prizes Level 1 - The Effects Master Level 2 - The Effects Guru Level 3 - The Effects God |

Sweet work Mates... I can't do fire but perhaps (since this is a learning competition) you guys could post frame by frame versions of your WIPs so we can all learn from it. |

lol, what you wanna learn? EDIT: Here's today's progress. Its FAR from done. I'd estimate I'm not even at 50%. The part where the power line disconnects will be more spectacular. Obviously, the flames and explosions are a sketch. Still alot of light effects to adjust. Gotta add smoke. No effect of a blast yet. A fire will start inside the building too. Loads of pieces of wrecked objects should be flying around. ![]() |

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v507/small_lard/Fire.swf (It runs slow because it's larger when not embedded in a window) Not an actual entry, just a test. I probably spent about 20 seconds on the background, 10 seconds on each frame, 0 seconds on planning. It was a test to see how much I can rely brainlessly on filters. The answer: a lot. I made the fire in white, blurred it. Made a yellow glow, and a red glow under that. Hope this can help someone with their fire. |

Who me? Wacom? lol. What wacom? Jemooky, this sure makes fire look very nice.. But there's one problem. It lags like a 56.6Ker on a heavy Multiplayer FPS. Or something. Looks good though! |

I think that your animation is GREAT, Cel. But I wonder something...wouldnt a gas station blow up like....have a big big big explosion?, or would it be like that. Considering gasoline, I think you should mak the explosion a bit bigger. |

I explained that. It's actually smaller than that when embedded, so it runs faster. Plus, it's 12fps. But there's no getting around the fact that three blur filters will bog down the flash player, but it can be done very, VERY well. Oh, cell, I really like your gas station animation. You have a way of making animations look really slick. |

Thanks everybody.
1) The explosion shouldnt be bigger, cause it wont fit the screen. This is just a sketch. There's alot to add.. Like smoke and flaming wreckage flying around. 2) Yes, its very well made. But the flash is set to Low - something I wouldnt do to my entry, cuase then the whole drawing will be wrecked. |

Thanks. Well, I did half an explosion. Still gotta do some flaming wreckage flying around. Then 2 more. And smoke. Thats like 9 hours of work so far. BTW, it might lag when everything explodes if you dont have a strong PC. Its the Brush's fault. I did it with high smoothing... The sketch, I mean. Oh, and.. Is anyone else gonna compete here? It will feel kinda weird if I'll be the only one who submited anything.

Looking good Cel! Just a suggestion, I think the wire should fall faster, or speed up as it falls. Keep going man. |

cel im liking ur fire, but ur explosions last too, uh short. imean the actual explosion is supposed to b fast but the smoke shud gradually lift up and maybe mold that into a cycle. |
