Here's the plan: everyone creates their own emoticons for the forum. they put them up here for people to vote on. at the end of the month, the best emoticon is chosen, and hopefully (if the mods and adam agree) will be put on the forum emoticon list. the emoticon should be 20w20h. all votes must be PM'd to me. i dont choose the winner, i just count the votes. hopefully with mod approval, this should be a fun competition.

I support this idea, it'd be awesome; just got to wait for Adam's approval! |

I like this idea.
Will require Adam's approval though. I'll mention it to him (he probably won't see it otherwise :P). |

this sounds good i will have a good try at it. I think that this will probably get mod approval. Hopefully it would be cool to see one of my drawings in everyday use being used over and over and over and over and over and over again |

This may sound like a silly question but how do you go about making an emoticon? Do you actually have to make it that small or can you work confortably on a healthy size canvas then shrink to 20 X 20? |

I work in a much bigger resolution to begin with, then shrink it to 20x20 after. You just need to make your own "antialias" pixel by pixel at the contour edges after you resize it Like the ones I made for TheEye: ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's the original resolution (created in macromedia flash, resized in photoshop) And as you see, you dont realy have to worry to much about details and linequality .. I use 50% grey background before I resize it down, then I cut away the grey background, and im left with some kinda antialiasing around the eges. (usally you have to make some pixels on the edges youreself too) |

That's a great idea Mal!
I've already got my submission ready
Umbrellafly Emoticon: ![]() (Note: Anghenfil made that one :P) This really is a fanastic idea though. How many emoticons would be able to go on the list each month? Right now my votes on Jaehl, partly because he's the only one who's got entries so far, but also because there's a Divine Walrus emoticon

they got that effect because they were drawn at a lower screen resolution I dont know which one Comlock used...(I guess 30x30 )ooh and I used to design my icons with Visual C++, but I am sure theres an easier way |

Yarr, this is just a test but I could try and make better ones.![]() The idea is fun. This is 40x33 or something big, it didn't look good smaller And it was hard cutting off the grey in it. I don't know what colour it should be to be transparent. Made in photoshop 8.0 Oh and maybe the sizelimit is a tad bit too small. 30x30 would be just great. Then there can be a bit more details. |

In my experience Mik, simpler emoticons are the ones you use more often. I know that's just a test, but when you make the proper ones, keep that in mind. Most emoticons are simple faces that convey an emotion, that's just a guy
Either that, or it's a character from Brackenwood (*hint hint* Maker of a good Littlefoot emote gets first prize for sure)

Yarr, I know, I know.. Thanks for the reminder tho. I was testing how a bigger picture looks smaller. As soon as I know how to make the BG transparent, they'll have some funny faces. Maybe I'll make you! Or Jemsus! Maybe I'll just make myself, as I'm a big fan of making funny faces.

do you have photoshop? if you do, when resizing the image and making the outline, select all the unwanted background stuff and press delete. then save it as a gif. |

Here comes requested test #2
![]() I chose the transparent background (yes, in PS) in the New... -thing options. These are kind of fun to make. It's just so nitpicky to draw all the lines just so that they look good in smaller form. |
