![]() The rules for these tasks Basically, each week you'll be given a rough guideline to follow. Anything you want to add is completely up to you. The main idea is just to have fun and improve at animating. This week's Animate That is: Start with a character standing alone, occupied with any miscellanous boring activity when another character creeps up behind him/her and startles him/her. Some things to consider: Where will your character be, and how will this play into his reaction? (Eg: If your character were standing at the edge of a cliff, perhaps his shock could cause him to stumble off?) What will your character be doing before he/she is startled? (Eg: If your character were playing with a yo-yo, when he/she is startled, the yo-yo might spin out of control and tangle them up.) How will the second character startle the first, by tapping them on the shoulder, or perhaps with a noise? Be creative! The Focus: Clearly emphasise the startled characters reaction, try to use not only facial expressions, but body language aswell. Make sure the second character 'creeps' upon the first one. This is to exercise one of the 12 Principles of Animation, "Anticipation".Most Importantly: Have fun! If you're having any problems with the exercise, don't hesitate to ask for help. And make sure to post your progress for feedback and for others to see! Before there's a public outcry, yes, I have Vec's permission to post this week's "Animate That!" I designed it

Yay, who wants to see what I've done so far ? http://hiylea.com/test/4-suprise_01.html I've been working on the approach and anticipation of the first guy. Obviously I haven't animated the reaction of the second guy yet. What you think so far? |

Nice sneak walk there, Ben. A bit more stretch in the legs might help but without the arms movement (which could change everything) it's hard to tell. Nice timing! Mutti, geez I wish I could see it! Not to worry tho, I'll be at me "real" machine soon enuff and'll check it out then. Oh, I so wanna participate in this!

Ranoka: Looking great. You've nailed the anticipation. One thing, after the 'creeper' surprises the guy (on his gameboy?) he stays in the same position until he is hit. Perhaps have him stand back, and be about to point and laugh at the other guy, until he is hit in the face
Very nice reaction to the the shout btw, very cartoony Mutti: Very original! However, try to work on your 'Anticipation' a little more. There isn't much time between the Metroids appearance and the surprise, hence there isn't much 'creep' factor.Perhaps you can do this to further the Anticipation: Have the metroid slowly float onto screen, then dart behind the Bus Stop sign. After poking its 'head' out the side of the sign, it rushes to latch on to the human. Looking good, keep going! Addz: So Addz, you figure yourself to be a funny man eh?! Very nice. You've got the anticipation going, when the 'surpriser' looks left and right before tapping the other person on the shoulder. I like how you've put in little details to make the reaction more convincing, the deep breath, how he puts down his paper before turning. The 'surpriser' looks so dissapointed after he gets no reaction, you conveyed that very well. Can't wait to see this one in its finished form!

LOL nice ranoka! I love the body position he is in after he just punched the guy. It was perfect, as it was like an "omfg! *punch*" thing, rather than a "die m****f*** s*** a***" etc. etc. etc..... Very nice, Only slight problem is the angle of their bodies.. Because the first (standing) bloke looks as if the eye is from above looking down, while the sneaking up guy is directly side on. Then after the creep, the sneaking guy "clicks" into a top-down position.. Im not sure how ur gonna fix that haha. Probably (if u are gonna fix it) best to change the standing positions ![]() -Jack |

Thanks for your crits guys. To solve your problem Neo_UK I'll say the guy sneaking up it pretending to walk on a type rope (I realised that happened, but I'm trying to keep loose and flexible with these animations, I have a tendancy to be perfectionist, which wastes a lot of time).I guess I could fix it by changing the angle the guy playing the handheld is standing, since he isn't that animated yet (less work). Thanks Dave, you noticed all the bits I haven't finished yet . Thanks for the praise Zwickel & smoscar. |

Not really, I wasn't really aiming to be funny... it just felt right to add the extra bits like the 'surpriser' looking left to right, the guy putting down his newspaper (It meant to be a book :P) Anyways, Thanks for the support... I believe I've out done myself, at first glace of the animation, I thought it was going to be crap but after spending 6 hours without any breaks, I can see how the whole animation improved... I was going to leave it as it is but now... I'm thinking of polishing it up once I've roughed out the flow of the animation. But I have to seee what happens... |
