Just four sec. exposures, eh? I was thinking they'd be quite a bit longer.... Is there a chance you could share some shot settings (I would ask for exif data, but that's probably not going to happen... ;) )? When I do that kind of think i usually stop down my lens as much as I can until I hit the sweet spot (f/16 or so, but it varies from lens to lens), and with an ISO of 100, I'm looking at 30+ sec. expposures. I've just ordered a cable release, so I'll be able to do some sweet night sky stuff with my 8mm Fisheye!

:D

Maybe I should post some images in here, as I'm always critiquing others. It's probably time I shared some of my work.

*edit here is the first of my edits for dangermouse's photos, as promised (only a couple days late)

I hope it's a worthwhile improvement!

Wow I like how you fixed it up man, makes the characters look more depressed, and zombie like. Also around the polariod looks like its burnt. Can't wait to check the other two out. Also I'll be posting more polariods next week, I'm gonna be going to the snow (down south for us Sydney guys) gonna take the polariod with me.
Keep them coming Folville - Dangermouse

Giant wolf spider I saw, today. I only found out it was a wolf spider after I was well within its strike range.

For those that don't know, they're poisonous, but not necessarily deadly.

Hehe, nice spider, Tom! I can tell form the lack ot telephoto compression (the flattening effect visible in shots taken with long telephoto lenses) and by the shallow DOF that you were pretty close to the drat thing!

A certain photogrpahy forum thread entitled "I almost died taking this..." comes to mind here... :P

That looks like some pretty intense fire, greywolf; how large of an area did it consume?

Is there a chance you took any landscape photos during the fire or at least whilst the sky was filled with smoke and ash? Soft evening or morning light can make a very striking landscape, espeically when diffused by the smoke and haze of a fire.

Yex, this band-aid shot is fantastic. Are you selling prints of this on DA!?

The other photos aren't so remarkable--- mostly 'cause you forgot to frame them (it separates them so we can distinguish them better here in the forum.). ;)

Take in mind textures and lighting (think medium, dark & light tones).
Look at the two photographs with the bushy grasses, The Bridge of Past & Future and Follow Me, Friend. The grasses soak up and diffuse the light, resulting in a medium tone and uniform texture that is similar to the rest of the picture. You might try experimenting during sunrise/sunset when shadows are deeper (depending on where you stand) for future outdoor shots. When it's overcast or midday, lighting tends to be samey or flat.

Gourds, full of those glossy, spiny strands of grass is a good one I think--- but couldn't help a crude manipulation:

Posted Image

It feels like some of the outlying grasses are robbing focus from the gourds. So--- with a slight blur filter applied, they shan't bug as much, and leave more to the lovely gourds.

Great work!--- keeping on snapping these black & whites!

Thank you for the excellent advice! :)
Nope, I'm not selling prints yet.
I guess I'm going to have to learn how to use photoshop, then...XD

Learn Photoshop? Hell yeah, you do!
A lot of photographers think it's taboo to use photoshop to make your shots look better, but the way I see it is it's still your art. Just don't try to pass it off as unedited content.

Here's a link that really helped me get the most out of my shots using photoshop.

CLICK!

Oh, and I love that Band-Aid shot, by the way.

That Band-Aid shot is definitely a keeper!

Just got a roll developed today with roughly 70% of the shots turning out to my satisfaction! One of the most successful rolls I've had in a while....

There's about 14 or so, so I'll only throw my favorites up here & provide a link to the rest (new ones from this roll are up to "JR Double Expo") for anyone who's interested.

Ketchup, I think I may have asked this before, but I'm too lazy to check... do you edit your photos' contrast and colors and such in photoshop?

And if I've already asked that before, then to keep from making a totally pointless post, I must say that those photos are absolutely stunning.

Sorry for taking so long, I'm a really lazy bastard, and those are some nice photos. I especially like ketchupface's last one.

I've had photoshop for a long time now, but just recently i've been getting into photo editing in it, so you could say I'm a bit of a beginner.. but its fun to figure stuff out

Haha... I'm in love with the whole like, "Cinematic Effect" but whatever.. I'll experiment with other stuff too.

You have some great work there, hwiazen; I especially like the lensbaby-like effect in most of the images. It works particularly on the regal, old building to blur out the modern, intrusive building on the left hand side and the hanging wires on the right.

I disagree with Folville. I think you might've overdone it with the blur on that one, but hey, that's just me. The picture is great, as are the others, but with such excessive blur, it looks very unnatural and weird to me. It almost hurts my eyes to try to focus.

I especially like the last two... probably because you didn't blur them.

I'm used to seeing photos taken with lensbaby accessories, so I kind of like the effect, but I can see where it could be unpleasant to the eye. It's a bit of a gamble, but the beauty of photoshop, which I suspect this to be, is that it can be toned down, increased, or altered in any number of ways. :bing:
