Thanks Calco, it wasn't too hard an effect to create. Placing the sheet of ice over the star/light-source and ensuring there were no other disruptive light sources in the room to affect the metering I used a fairly fast shutter speed, exposing it for 1/30 and an aperture of f/5.6 with an ISO speed of 800 to get some of the light from the light-source but over all keep the image dark and focus on the textures. Although in the last two I let the flash fire to bring out the textures even more. The only post production work was cropping and in the case of the last image brightening it and adjusting the white balance.

Lights that stick into the ground and branch out like flowers with stars on the end. I arranged them to add depth so you get them on different levels of focus.

sorry for the double post. Got a new lens today, late birthday present thanks to slow post, and I've been having fun.

It's the AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D so they're both manual focus

Taken for the RED contest on Nikon DSLRs Flicker Contest group http://www.flickr.com/groups/611151@N21/
Two light sources were set up for this shot, one direct and one soft dispersed.
The 50mm f/1.8D AF lens was used to create the shallow depth of field.

my sister got a polaroid camera for Christmas, and these are a few of the outcomes of it.

they're not really on the artistic side of photography, but I think polaroids are sweet. :)

You have to love the quality of polaroids and they're artistic in the fact that they're snapshots of real life and capture the essence of it (or atleast that's how I feel)

Taken for a black and white competition on flickr.

Posted Image
Taken with ice cubes and a homemade soft box (by taping a sheet of paper round a lamp to disperse the light better)

Posted Image
would have submitted one of these for the competition but they were taken after the deadline.

Posted Image
Never work with ice with food colouring in, so messy.

Posted Image
May submit this for a "Green" competition on one of the flickr groups I'm on but compared to the competition it's not really good enough.

Eye: Officially?! :o

Munch: I wouldn't eat them they're covered in glitter, a bit gritty

These shots are amazing Laura! Into ice at the moment?

The ice in the first coloured photo there has some really good looking patterns in it.

Keep up the great work :D

Into ice at the moment?

Looks like it, although not intentionally. They just come out with a unique image each time and you can have fun playing around with them. For example: I don't know what possessed me to add black food dye to half of them before sticking them in the freezer but it was the worst mess you can imagine when they started to melt!

Thanks for all the support though everyone, means a lot. I'm off to autosport international on Saturday (going down tomorrow afternoon) so hopefully there should be some good car shots up Sunday evening. Also my silver reflector arrived today so maybe some portraiture at some point too.

Oh lord please don't tell me that's menstrual blood Dash :worry:

Well I'm back from autosport international and have photos to share, although not as many as I would like - way too many people around to take a decent shot of anything. Maybe next year I'll try and got a job in a garage or something doing minor things like cleaning up then go in on the Trade day when it's quiet.

Bet that was fun to clean up!

I love the colours in the first one, if you hadn't mentioned the food colouring I would have thought it to be an elaborate post processing!

This weekend I was at a photography meet with "Welsh Flickr Cymru" in Llanberis, the weather was terrible, an overcast muggy day, it was neither brilliantly sunny or dramatically terrible which isn't fun for photography but it's Wales so I didn't expect any better really.
Managed to get a few shots out

Nice ones, Calco! Any more pictures of the shoot?

I've pretty much moved to Flickr now, there's some fairly new lomography shots of my niece and my sister. Take a peek! >> http://www.flickr.com/photos/21319200@N03/
