YO! RACHEL YA JOINED! Welcome aboard girl!

(to everyone, this is Rachel, a very good friend of mine a kickass designer in my class)

I had a nosey at your problem there Rach, and i hope this helps:

To close a movie clip using a button inside the movie clip all ya have to do is:
Posted Image

looks like photobucket.com is annoying me again by resizing my pics. <_< cant frigging read it!

What ya need to do is add a button inside ur MC, on that button add this code:

Code:

on (release) {
_root.removeMovieClip("box");

if(this == Number(this)){
 unloadMovieNum(this);
} else {
 this.unloadMovie();
}

By the way remember that there are handy behaviours u can use to help out little probs. they can come in handy.

The button does not have to be insIde the movieclip though. If u have a button that loads in a movie clip, u can use it to close it too. Make sure when u load in the movieclip its not loading in in place of the button though. either way it works.

I think the best place to introduce yourself is the Newbie Introduction thread in Mumble section. Although the ActionScript section is ubercool, not everyone frequents it. But nearly everyone is goes to mumble section ;)

welcome anyway, glad ya joined. ;)

Juggs!

I was wondering about that movieclip...

Ok, so when the popup appears whent he scene loads, and I allow the user to play around with the content inside then close it up, that's grand and works sweet...

But say I'd like it to be available to them when they click a button...how do I call it again? The whole tellTarget and gotoAndPlay with labels etc doesn't work...I guess that's prob cos of the removeMovieClip command I attached to the close button within the movieclip popup?

Anyone with any help, please advise!

Laters ppl!

if ur working on one frame, with one button that loads in the external movieclip, then when u press the button on that movieclip to remove itself, the button that originally called it should still be able to load it no problem.

With regards to the Tell Target code, it worked well in Flash 5 but its depreciated now, meaning its not used that much. its sorta old now.

Not entirley sure what ur problem is, but if u send me ur fla i could have a look for u. ;) ill be on msn, or if u post up images depicting ur problem.

right so basically the pop up movieclip appears once the the frame is reached on the timeline. it is automatically opened rather than the user opening it themselves?

If u want the button chords to reopen it, its simple.

So do u want that it loads in automatically, and when closed there are various options that once press will 'reload' the pop up but at a different section in that pop up?

if so the more cumbersome way and less codey way to do it is to make a separate movie clip for each option. that is what i would do.

i have put together a thing that an external MC loads in when a frame is reached. it can be clsed but a button on the main timeline will reopen the popup but simply at the start. (this what ur looking for? or u want it to be able to go to another section in the loaded in MC?

:huh:

to post an image, upload ur image to an image host site like photobucket, and add the link inside image tags by using the IMG option above.

hey dude!

yeah the first option is what Im after.

The popup opens as soon as you enter that movie - it's the first thing you see. But ideally:

1. pop up opens by clicking the chord button on the main timeline (at the start is fine each time, i don't need it to jump to any other parts - it'll open at G and the user will navigate through the pop up)
2. Then, the user can close the popup by the 'close' button in the pop up movieclip (top right corner)
3. But, during the lesson, oh dear, the user can't really remember the formation of the G chord, so they need to open the pop up again for reference. So, they click the chords button and up pops the pop up again.

See where Im going with this?

Cheerso!
