Hi,
Ive been coming here for about a year now, I visit this forum a few times a week but Ive never posted much, but I am going to make an effort and start posting a bit more.Anyways here is a quick animation I did today.

Quick Animation

G'day Lupa!

Its great to hear that you visit Brackenwood often. Feedback is as good as any animation, it really helps to hear what other people suggest. I'm glad to hear that you will be posting more, because that animation is simply awesome!

Couple of things i noticed is that the lines on his nose seem to thicken when it turns to face us. His chin line doesnt follow right through, it appears when he turns to the right and left, but not face on. There is also a line on the side of his head that disappears when he turns to our left (his right).

Other than that. Its Great!
How long have you been animating for?
I can't wait to see more of your work!

Also.. Gobi could you chuck a button on that or just put the link.. the sound is really annoying.
Thanks a Bunch!

I saw this thread I taught why not post it here? So, anyway, I’m doing a 3D animation course, and to be honest it not that much fun. A big Art fair is coming up and I entered. My teacher will also count this for a major, major portion of my final grade for my 3D class.

(Why would my teacher accepts 2D in a 3D class, I shall never know, but won’t question it)

So far in 3D class I’ve been, well, doing poor, so I can’t afford to mess this up. So for the past days, I’ve made a storyboard on a paper. 6 pages worth of it, backside I might add three box’s filled with scene illustrations. A short 3min flash at most, tops, making the characters simple and the plot entertaining. Now that I’m done with story plot, I now know what I am going to be making. So far I’ve been working on some concept scenery art and facial expressions of my protagonist in the flash. Also, the Antagonist as well, because every story needs a bad guy. So I was messing around in flash and just made this side view walking cycle for one my characters.

(Which every moment for me was hard, it felt like a battle, and flash gives me a lot. I don’t understand it most of the time but I have obstinately learned to content myself with only a little.)

I want to re-introduce flash to the school and see if I can bring back some 2D as well to the school. So enjoy these little pieces here and anyone is welcome to provide some criticism and feedback.

( So far it feels like im winning the battle with flash...but feeling is only half the battle....)

Thanks w00t for your feedback, It has been of great help! Ive updated the animation now and added color to it. If anyone can see anything else wrong with it I like to hear. W00t I have been animating just over a year now and Ive still got a long way to go. I just cant stop reading ASK, Its a great book and has helped me a lot.
Anyways here is the updated version:

Updated Animation

I still cant get the nose (face on frame) right. It drops to much and looks bigger?

Seems you are new, welcome man.

It isn't bad but you have a long way to go, it still wobbles and jumpes so i suggest you practice getting your volumes down correctly.
Also the nose, the change is very visible, clean it up a bit.

Hey Rade! :bfoot:

It's good you've decided to draw out your character first on paper to get the feel for him.
However, if the final is going to be in 3-D, I would suggest drawing any 2-D animation into the 3-D program using a grease-pencil tool or equivalent, and keep it rough. If you make a nice 2-D animation, and then have to translate it over to 3-D, you're working yourself double-time and have to do twice the animating. A great approach to working in 3-D is to first sketch out the character in a sketchbook, working out and pushing the poses you want to use in the scene. When you're done, you have a sheet of reference you can keep nearby while you animate the model in 3-D.

Let's take a look at your character,
rofl:

Posted Image

If you break it down, he's roughly a ball with legs on it--- the legs being in the front, just below the mouth. Since his body is spherical, the weight will be centered in the middle. It looks a little odd that his main and only supporting limbs are so far forward in his body. This could present a problem when trying to create 'appealing' movements. A good character needs to not only look good, but it must function as well. (the two walk hand in hand, really. ^_^)

A great way to improve upon this design would be to look at one of the greatest references of them all:

The Human Form

Posted Image

The solution to your leg-placement problem may lie in this form. Note the placement of the legs on the hips of a human. Centered. This might be a good thing to assimilate for your character. Compress the upper body of the human form down into the hips, then simplify it into a ball--- and you've got yourself a ball with legs. rofl is just a few quick changes away. :)

About the cycle of
rofl, he looks a little weightless. The difficult thing about walk cycles is that they're DIFFICULT. If you watch someone walking, you'll see every one of the principles of animation incorporated within just two cycles of their walk. Squash and stretch in the body as the joints compress ever so slightly on each step. Overlapping action in the arms, head, torso, and legs. Etc, etc.

Read up every principle in the Survival Guide & the Illusion of Life and apply them mercilessly. Remember, animation isn't just copying what you see in life verbatim. You're taking what you see, putting it on a screen, and infusing it with life using the principles. Without exaggeration, the animation will look stoic and floaty--- mechanical, even.
Push it. :bing:

You also mentioned 'fighting' to bring out the movements. If you're not already, try working in a pose-to-pose style, clearly defining the key, breakdown, and extreme poses. Once that's done--- all you've got to do is link them with inbetweens and tweak the timing to make it look pretty. :)
