The only crit i have is that the nose seems to wobble a bit too much, the rest of his body is pretty stable. In comparison his nose takes on a gummy appearance.

Um, wow. I was daydreaming and the image of this happening cracked me up while sitting in my chair. So I was like, hell, i might as well draw it real quick in case i forget.

So yea, lol. WARNING: Very quick work = Very crude animation.

Last thursday I received from Amazon what I'm starting to believe is the greatest book EVER! Probably the best thing about it its size. It's so big I can hug it.
I speak, of course, of The Animator's Survival Kit.

Cooked up a generic walkcycle after reading through about half of it. Tell me what you think:

(I know the arm is wrong, but I couldn't figure out how to do the timing+spacing on the way back.

I await your comments and critiques with subtle anticipation.

Good cycle. I'm glad you implemented what a lot of novice animators (like myself even =]) miss, which is the bobbing motion of the body while stepping.

I was surprised to see just how much "change" tilting the beltline achieved. Removing the belt line, or even just the tilt, takes the animation down so many levels.

Not bad for your first, Merai, not at all! Quite gooey in fact! That stick-man sure is crafty. :bitey:

Have you submitted it to Newgrounds.com, yet?

I've got a suggestion!--- if you'd care to read it.

When your next stick animation (or otherwise) comes around--- give some thought to these prominent principles used in animation:
  • - Squash and stretch
Most organic beings show an example of this principle, whether it's a frog bunching up (squash) before he leaps (stretch), or a great cheetah bounding after its prey on the plains. It also applies perfectly to stick men.
    - Anticipation
The build-up of energy before an action. It creates a feeling of inertia--- bestowing weight and reality to the animation. Typically, the greater the build-up, the greater potential for the action. The use of this principle even procreates after its own name. Anticipation will telegraph what is about to happen, telling their minds, "Something is happening, here!!"
    - Slow In / Slow Out
This is really just an extension of the above principle. Any object is going to move slowler at first than at its top speed. (some robots, machinery, & karate masters are excluded) Naturally, it will take some time to slow all of its momentum before it can come to a complete stop, too.

If you look for them, you can see each of the aforementioned principles in these two stickmen. One is demonstrating the principles more strongly than the other. Be observant!

The adjacent green/red dots show the position of the stickmen's head at any given frame. Watch how each side moves... the green dot seems to be just behind the red one, but they both actually end their sequence at the same time. One is moving dynamically, the other, in a linear fashion. The red dots works, but the green dot is just so more appealing.

Mess around a little bit--- try applying some of those in your next piece, Merai!

Pretty good, just try to maintain the character's size in each frame a bit more, it's actually really good for a mouse.

JB walk

I think I'll try and do a run next, or something else I haven't done yet.

ps. Is there any way to change the brush size "on the fly"? I hate always having to move the mouse cursor away from my drawing just to change the size of the brush. Are there any buttons on the keyboard assigned to changing the size of the brush?

using a tablet with pressure sensitivity turned on

I have a wacom, but I'm not to good with controlling the pressure. So with pressure sensitivity turned on my lines are usually kind of wobbly.

Oh sweet jesus, all hail The Animator's Survival Kit, which IS the greatest book ever written. I have had the honour of being able to hire it from my local University Library for 6 weeks. Taught me alot of stuff.

Also, yeah, I turn my pressure sensitivity off.

silly effects for something.

I agree with the tutorial suggestion nelson!!!
Oh god, I always try making nice explosions, but never manage doing it.

Do you use many layers for a single explosion?

This is just a loading sequence with an iPod.
I wanted to see if anyone liked it and if I should
take away the shadows and I need a suggestionon the background.
I guess that I can't see whether or not the bar loads in the right
direction... It's the Blue bar, like on an iPod... Okay,
Whatever C&C welcome

Very good for your first Daz! My only pointers now would be to just keep doing the same type of thing, you will gradually improve your timing and movement the more you practice. Was this walkcycle for anything in particular or just practicing?
