I was trying to figure where to put this in the forum, and I honestly can't figure it out :bfoot: . If it's in the wrong place, by all means move it.

Its a little thing I had to write for English class/ contest.

I Can Make a Difference

Everyone always thinks they have to do or be something amazing to make a difference in the world. They have to find a planet, cure a disease, be an astounding lawyer, or fight a glorious battle. This is to prove those people wrong.

I can make a difference by being the jerk you call for Tech Support. I’ll be the guy who goes through high school, sometimes college, and takes a course just to learn how to help you with technical difficulties. I’ll be the one who’ll sit day by day, listening to angry caller after caller, sending hundreds of people to my manager who does the exact same thing I do. Sure, Bill Gates makes the software, but you don’t call Bill Gates every time you get a virus. I’ll be the guy at his desk, day after day, answering the phone kind and politely despite the fact there’s an ignorant buffoon on the other line, ready to snap at me for no reason.

I can make a difference by being that stupid ambulance worker. I’ll be the one who actually rushes to your house when the emergency happens. The one who actually gets you to the hospital and makes sure the wound doesn’t get infected. I’ll be the one who you’ll yell at for not going fast enough and not caring if you live or die. The one who gets paid a crummy salary for making sure you don’t die, and watches as the doctor gets all the credit and cash.

I can make a difference by being the random, lazy City Policeman. I’ll be the guy who learns how to kill a person, but has to keep their cool under fire. The 1% of the city’s population who’s supposed to keep perfect watch over the other 99% of it. The guy you blame for not saving your cousin from a group gun toting thugs, the odds set at 1 to every 3 of them. I’ll be the guy who didn’t save Uncle Joey from a drug deal gone bad, who turned out to be a ring leader of the stuff. The one who’s there for the occasional school beat up and vandalism of a random highway, but not the shooting 20 miles out of my jurisdiction. The guy who comes home from a day of cocaine busts, mutilated corpses, and rape stories, to find his wife upset because they don’t spend enough time with each other.

I can make a difference by being some hillbilly farmer out in the middle of nowhere. I’ll be the one who works from sunrise far into sun-set with a plow and seeds. The one who makes food for the millions in the cities, the hundreds of livestock, and then maybe a bit of corn and wheat for himself. The one who has constant blisters, bruises, and all assortments of medicinal maladies from reaching out with a hoe one too many times. I’ll be the guy who wakes up each day to see acres of crops as far as the eye can see, and know that I have to go out and grow every last ear of corn on each stalk for some thousands of people I’ve never met. I’ll be the one who makes enough to keep somebody’s wallet thick, but not enough to do the same for my stomach. I’ll be one of the few holding the burdens and needs of the many on my back each and every day.

You can make a difference by being the famous astronaut. You can make a difference by being the miracle working doctor. You can even make a difference by yelling at a drug company your entire life like some psycho with nothing else to do. Then, you’ll go home and eat the farmer’s dinner. You’ll turn on the TV to hear about the stupid policeman killed in a drug bust. You might even call your brother Ernie and here about how he’s going to sue the ambulance driver for taking forever to get to the hospital in rush hour. Then when the power goes out, you’ll pull out a cell phone and yell at some jerk that needs to get off his rump and put somebody who knows how to fix an entire block losing power on the phone. Finally, you’ll walk into your bedroom and lay on some comfy sheets and drift off to sleep. Sheesh, you think to yourself, some people those guys are.

Loved it! :D Very strong points - I especially like the way you repeated 'I can make a difference'

Good luck on the competition :) (unless it's already gone by)

Mystical Mongoose:- So nice to needlessly repeat what someone else said, then leave a discouraging comment for Grey Fox. <_<
