Hi I am about to start a whole new website with short independant Flash animation series. I am planning to stick to pure HTML and JPG's. The links/buttons that I want to start with are: Home, Episodes/Toons/Cartoons and Contact. Very simple in the beginning. My idea was to make a statcounter ( http://www.statcounter.com ) to keep a track of my visitors. Also I am planning to upload some episodes to Youtube, and write the name of the website and (Copyrigh 2008 [my name]) in the end of each episode. Is there anything you can recommend me to be aware of when starting such website to: * Protect my art and content * Keep a good track of incoming visitors * Promote my site making it easier to find I appreciate every hint, as I am new in this business. Best Regards |

Use png, not jpg. You should be careful with html. It can be time consuming unless you have some web design program or you know how to code. If you know code, you should really use php and css if the site is more than a couple pages. You can also use google webmaster tools to get your site on google and see some extra stats. As for the youtube videos, that's a good idea to put the website at the end. You should also put it in the video description and on your youtube page. I think you can put a small image above each video description, so maybe make it an ad for your website. |

Why? PNG's are ludicrous in filesize compared to JPG's, I'dd only use them if I need transparency. That is, unless there's a reason to choose them that I'm unaware of. BTW, I've moved this topic to web development. |

Thank you for answering. But is there any good reason to put this topic under the section where no one looks? I know it is under web, but if you look at how little people have clicked into this forum sections - not many people will se this post. |

Might be, but if everyone follows this logic EVERYTHING wil get posted in Mumble. It sucks but it's just forum policy, and as a mod I'm supposed to move stuff into the right place. |

Aleque, your first post was about getting ideas and making things better for your website, so that's why Rubberhead moved it to Web Development. When your website is populated and you want feedback on your actual content, feel free to post it in the 'Look at my stuff!' forum. |

Everybody stand back! I know regular expressions!

PNG uses lossless compression, and doesn't have all the crappy artefacts. Observe. |

I would just use .BMP even if that is higher in size than .JPGS some pointers to think about when making your website *Apperance(eye catching) *Audience *Easy Navigation etc... if you need help coding and all that id love to help, becuase im currently looking for employment as a Juniour Web Developer, and id definetly use CSS its alot easier! Good luck dude! |

That is one of the worst things you could ever do. Bitmaps are not only HUGE in file size (they're the largest uncompressed images you can have), but the .bmp format is not supported in every browser or on every operating system. Originally a windows format, it will probably work in Internet Explorer on Windows, but aside from that you have no guarentees on what sort of system clients are operating on. JPEG images are the safest format in terms of being commonly recognised as a standard sort of format (and it would be nice if PNGs made it to the same standing) but you should NEVER use bitmap images on the web. |

ahhh i always use Bitmaps. when ever ive made a website ive tested it in IE, Firefox and Opera and they all work. I do agree that Jpegs are the best but the quality in the image is just shoddy on a side note Ive noticed that you have joined the Fusion-Revolution Staff, Vector. Is this old news? |

They all work in windows, but have you tried a mac or linux? Or legacy software like IE5 or netscape (which people still use), or alternative browsers like seamonkey or mozilla (not firefox, mozilla), or safari or konqueror? I'm just saying there's no way to guarantee that it will work across the board. ----- The staff thing is a fairly recent thing, but basically I met Master Samus IRL before I saw any of his animations and stuff. We both work at the same place these days, and occasionally we stuff around with ideas in flash. We just never get anything done because we're both so busy with work (and uni for me). |
