Basically I was wondering how is Adam going about this books publishing since there isn't going to be a tangible form of the literature. I suppose when you get right down to it you can write and sell for money anything you want without a publisher and if that's the case then I can see a lot of benefit it terms of profit going directly to Adam. There might be some problems but then again I don't think I've ever realized that the internet could mean up a lot of the complicated matters that make up the branch of book publishing. |

Over the past 6 months or so, in my free time I've been writing a book with the intention of submitting it to a publisher.. but I decided to release an eBook when recently I was contacted by a publisher. "Will you write an animation book with us?" I initially said I was interested, but after thinking about the relatively small advance they were offering, I decided that I could definitely earn more by selling it myself. I get a good steady stream of traffic to my site, I have a store already running, not to mention that an eBook makes perfect sense. I can price it how I want (to accommodate my 13-25yo 'budding artist' demographic), I can use swear words and silly diagrams if I like, I can go full-colour (which is expensive and pie-in-the-sky-ish in the world of print), I can update/correct files easily and not be at the mercy of some arrogant technical editor who knows nothing about FX and animation. The reason I decided to do this is NOT because I want to start writing lots of stuff. Most of the work is already done, I have entire chapters of well-structured Flash CS3 tutorials, full of great screenshots and illustrations, never published. It only makes sense to make something of them, especially given that tutorials are the most requested thing, besides new movies If all that isn't enough, the real great thing is that I have the option of releasing an eBook one chapter at a time, charging say $2-3 per chapter. That way, people can buy only the chapters they need and skip chapters they don't need, but if they want to buy the whole book, that's their choice. Still working on the logistics of all this but the opportunities, rewards and flexibility far outweigh the print/publisher option. phew.. I need a glass of water. |

I think that's a great idea. Gnomonology has a similar concept in regards to selling parts or chapters of video tutorials for cheap. I think that's a whole new way of learning without having to break the bank on 60.00 dvd's I hope you go through with it.

Oh that'll come after he's hooked you with the eBook. It's really cool, there's this new movement called the Infomation Product Industry where people have started making their own products all over the internet and marketing and selling them online in the form of eBooks, Audio Programmes, DVDs ect.... I'm even doing it. I'm writing an Autobiographical Self-Help eBook for Agoraphobics. So if you've got any knowledge in ANY area and have a market niche, make a product out of it! |
