Being pretty isn't really a bad thing it's just that competitions like this place too much importance on outward appearance and that fuels a plague of low self esteem for any young girls that don't fit the current ideal of beauty. Beautiful people are generally regarded as better all around regardless of whether it's the truth or not. As a whole I find beauty pageants to be an emotionally damning institution that needs to be seriously revamped or done away with completely.
