Okay well I haven't ACTUALLY seen this play...yet. But I am SO into theatre and musicals that I have the soundtrack, know the story from beginning to end, and am in love with it. I had an opportunity to go 3 years ago, but didn't have the funds at the time so I missed that wagon. Its the story of what happens BEFORE the Wizard of Oz takes place. Its the story of Glenda, the good witch; an Elphaba (The wicked witch of the west) who are best friends in their younger years and how the Wicked Witch becomes, the Wicked Witch. You will never be afraid of her again. I haven't even read the book yet but I do have the soundtrack and have researched the story beyond everthing I can get my hands on. And hopefully I'll see it before it closes on Broadway. So...are you guys wicked fans too? Anyone? |

Well, I haven't actually heard much about it but I wanted to see it for my Drama GCSE... We went to see Blood brothers instead, despite my protest ._. |

Well, it looks like we might still get to see it in some form! I was web surfing today and found out that thats going to be the musical of 2010!!! You know, Hairspray last year, Mama Mia this year, Chicago, the Producers, etc etc... They're doing one every year now. So the year after next is wicked! It better be amazing. No word on cast though yet. |

Wicked has been my favorite book for about seven years now. Not this January but the one before I saw the touring show. It gave me chills, it was so good, and both Popular and No Good Deed are among my favorite Broadway tunes. As far as story lines go, I think I prefer the book, but comparing books to musicals is like comparing apples to oranges (or maybe just apples to grapples, but whatever). The book is much darker. The ideas of tyranny, colonization at the destruction of indigenous people, and prejudice are much, much more stressed in the book. Fiyero is also not the rich, stuck up prince they make him out to be in the musical (in the book, that's more Avaric's role). And of course, there's about three hundred pages more of detail that they couldn't put in a two hour show. If you do read it, you should read the original Wizard of Oz right before, just as a refresher. All the little things and attention Gregory Maguire paid might jump out more then (there was stuff I missed until my second or third re-reading). As a side note, I think this was the first and closest thing to literary porn I ever read -- hilarious considering the book was recommended to me by one of my high school teachers freshman year. |

Hahaha I've heard that! Personally I haven't read it, but my best friend has read it, seen it on tour, AND seen it on Broadway... I've been meaning to read it too, but I just haven't had the time lately. But she told me not to let my little sister read it until she was older. I think that "The Wizard and I" is my favorite, although I've only heard the soundtrack and seen youtube clips from the show. And Popular is so horribly catchy!!! Hopefully I'll see it before I die!!! But with the movie maybe I'll get a little reprieve. Although, I'm wondering how it will be pulled off. Meaning, do you think they'll follow the book or the play more for the screenplay's ideas. Probably the play, at least if its a musical. I'm excited either way! haha |

I read the book last summer, and loved it beyond words. I have yet to see the musical, but if it does the book justice, well - I might just -have- to see it. Will it be filmed? 0_o Wicked!

It IS in fact going to be filmed....well....they're making it into a movie! So like they're not filming the production, which is now what I think you mean...although, there are clips on youtube... Movie is going to be released in 2010...and I'm seriously hoping they bring back at least Idina and Kristen...I'd die if they didn't. |
