Anybody looking forward to seeing the new Star Trek movie? I haven't decided yet. Like, I like the first Star Trek series and I dunno if they'll mess it up.
But I know the difference...
between myself and my reflection.
I just can't help but to wonder...
Which of us do you love?

I dunno, parents are going to see it this weekend sometime. Can't say as I care to see it. I can't stand to see Spock played by anyone but Leonard Nimoy.

I saw it and LOVED it! I was thinking the same thing, Lunaria, but...Leonard Nimoy is in it...and the guy who played spock, although he wasn't dead onto the character, the way they wrote the movie it sorta made it okay. I'm gonna go see it again with my sister at some point in the next week. My dad was all like "you cant beat the originals" and yeah thats true, but they did a good job. Like sometimes I was like "oh you're kidding me." but...yeah it was a good REPRESENTATION of the characters.

Yeah I had heard that Nimoy was in it and even gave the guy his blessing. I guess it's just something odd about me. Normally I don't have this much problem with it. I'd go see it just for the hell of it. *shrug* I bet we'll get it on DVD if the parents like it so I can watch it then.

Oh its not odd, I totally understand. Because for a while I was like "you can't beat the originals." And you can't, but like seeing someone else's spin on it is interesting. Like, really there were times in that movie they'd do something with a character and I'd be like "oh hell no." but overall it was worth it. And it was written to give them that wiggle room.

I dunno, my boyfriends parents see a new series sprouting out of this...and I kinda hope that doesn't happen, but I've also heard rumblings of a second movie already? I'm kinda like "PLZ NO!" haha Movie peoples never know when to let a good thing stay a good thing.

*snort* Yeah well movie people will milk anything they get a profit off of until everyone is completely sick of it. George Lucas and the Star Wars series is a perfect example.

I'll agree to that. I'm a trekkie and star wars geek combined...I loved the original star wars, and even 1 and 2 were good...but 3 just killed it. That was the point where they were like "HOMG GET MOVIE OUT NAO TO QUELL FANS!" and it just....was the saddest one of the series. And then after that with all the cartoons?! Gahd...I know Kai will agree with me that The Clone Wars makes my eyes bleed just thinking about it.

Lets just hope they don't do that here...cuz it really would spoil quite a bit...I mean, there were some loose ends at the end of this movie, so its open to that...but....i'm hoping soooooo bad that they don't go to explore those...because in a series you might not get the same actors and then that totally kills it for me...like...keep the same actors plz. We don't need 15 million Kirks & Spocks wandering around...we go to conventions for that, we don't need it on our tvs :D

Too true! Sometimes you just want to take those hollywood producers by the throat and say "More is not always better!" I hesitate to say I've watched Clone Wars from sheer boredom before. It reeks. Maybe if they hadn't gone out of their way to make it kid accessable it'd be decent. As it is it just doesn't inspire the same awed glee that a really good Star Wars should.

And just imagining tv series and movie sequels for Star Trek. Oi. If they actually do it we'll go to a con one day and see "The Kirk Panel: Meet all the Kirks as we discuss the character in depth!"

Hahaha, and every Kirk would have a ripped shirt and an alien woman on their arm...and there wouldn't be much to discuss, except for "Where'd the speech impediment come from? Cuz it wasn't in the movie." and then one of them would be like "I.....tookablow...to...the head. One day." Granted, there was no ripped shirt Kirk in the movie. I mighta missed it...>.< Well, miss is the wrong word...cuz although Bill Shatner was win in his own lovable way....he wasn't hawt. I kid...of course. Kirk was a very deep character...just ask one of his 9,000 lovers. (Oh my, that was awful of me. My apologies :D) I should write a book..."How to get trekkies to turn against one of their own!"

:D Oh dear I'm having a hard supressing the fits of giggles your post caused. I'll make no secret of it. I've never been a Kirk fan. I've always prefered Picard or Janeway honestly. Shatner Kirk was just waaaay too macho for my liking. And we can't forget his instant lust skill. Every woman be she alien or human instantly falls in lust with Kirk. Why it would be blasphemy to suggest that he is in any way undesirable!

See for me, it was that over the top attitude...that "I AM MORE OF A MAN THAN YOUR MOTHER EVER COULD BE!...I mean...uh...I'M A MAN DAMNIT! LOOKIT! MY SHIRT IS RIPPED! THATS MANLY!" that...made me love him so much. Like, I loved TOS more than any of them...TNG came next in my loves, and then after that it fizzled...I don't really watch past that. Picard was win in his own way but he still had that slight manly man attitude but it was suppressed with Shakespeare and his loyalty to Guinan. And even though they came out with like 753 movies, they kept the same cast...so it was totally fine with me. But you know now...they won't do it. There was just something about Kirk that made me love star trek. I mean, Spock and Bones were always...it was as if the 3 of them battled for my fanship. But it was that there that made TOS my favorite series. Cuz I had so many favorite characters, whereas in TNG...Its between Data and Diana.

Yeah Spock and Bones are definitely my favorites from TOS. TNG was good and for me it was Picard and Data there. After TNG it did kinda fizzle a bit but I still liked Voyager. A female captain was just too novel for me not to watch. DS9 was a good one but it got strange even for Star Trek after a bit.

OMG OMG OMG someone else who likes voyager ha ha voyager is one of my favs coz it has some wicked ass episodes. year of hell. omega. and various others. janeway is a schizo manic who bounces between "we mustnt break prime directive" to "do anything to win" but shes all alone out there in the big bad delta quadrant i think its perectly acceptable.

i liek voy and tng. ds9 bored me apparently it got good later but it had already lost me. i never watched TOS but i may after the film which to come back on topic ...

ROCKED.

I just annoied with the fact the one british guy who wasnt scotty was a total retard lol. but he was in red *rolls eyes*

I've never actually seen a Star Trek movie (or TV episode). I'm a Star Wars fan, but this new Star Trek movie looks good. If i watched the new movie without having seen any other Star Trek related media, will I be total lost on whats going on?
