OKAY! So...I'm going to totally bitch here. We apparently had the...miss California pageant recently? Sure. I'm not following the ENTIRE thing, at least I didn't start until later in the story. Anywho, she was a pageant queen. And then like, at the pageant or whatever...like, they asked her a question about her views on gay marriage. And she was like "its fine but its against my religion" or whatever...and the judge slammed her or whatever like on youtube...and there was this big scandal. THEN....there were like naked pictures of the girl released and she's all like "I'm not a skank." and getting all defensive. And they let her keep her title. And then they were like "Are there other pictures?" and she's like "if a photographer decides to release pictures of me without my knowing that's out of my control." so...that's a yes. THEN she blows off a Lary King interview because she got trashed at a party the night before? Seriously. I hate the whole beauty pageant thing for this reason. Its just a bunch of spoiled bratty bitches who have been brought up with "you're pretty so you can get away with it" teachings...and they encourage skinny makeup caked on skanks. Like really...every one of those girls has "racy" photos somewhere. You know it. We all know it. Like...I know there's exceptions to every rule and a girl can be GORGEOUS and be a wonderful girl who hasn't put out just because she can...but really. I think its just sad, and it sends such a wrong message. No matter what they say like....they're letting this girl keep her title...so what does that say to young girls? "ITS OKAY!" yeah in those gigantic capital letters. You can get everyone on your side because you handled a political attack with class, put on some tears at the podium at the news conference and become everyone's sweetheart....then 2 days later we find out that theres semi-naked pictures of you....THEN you're out partying instead of going to an interview...really, there's a contract with that title, and I think that right there...is 3 strikes...but lets let her keep her crown cuz shes got a supermodel body, is blonde and tanned. So yeah, Rozzys personal opinion. Beauty pageants are disgusting, send a bad message to young girls and really need to be reevaluated. |

Over all I'm of the same opinion. Being pretty isn't really a bad thing it's just that competitions like this place too much importance on outward appearance and that fuels a plague of low self esteem for any young girls that don't fit the current ideal of beauty. Beautiful people are generally regarded as better all around regardless of whether it's the truth or not. As a whole I find beauty pageants to be an emotionally damning institution that needs to be seriously revamped or done away with completely. |

I find it wonderfully ironic that theres an add for the "miss teen usa" competition at the bottom of this thread. Go google for picking out key words and advertising thus far. What gets me the worst is that shes getting away with all of this cuz she's pretty. Its not just beautiful is superior, it gets you what you want...so girls will strive for this...with the false hope that they can get what they want because they look good. But its not just beauty pageants that are emotionally damaging either, its child modeling and child acting and all of the like. Look at Miley Cyrus trying to emancipate herself from her parents because they weren't cool with her having a 21 year old boyfriend...and Disney stood behind her. We're raising divas, not little girls. And one day when these girls DON'T get what they want its going to be just as emotionally damaging, because they'll end up the one time someone says no, she won't know what to do. |

Yeah it's a problem of society as a whole. On average a good looking woman is going to get paid more for doing the same job as a less attractive woman. In the end things like this only encourage people that it's okay to only look skin deep. People are naturally drawn to beauty but we are fully capable of looking beyond it if we choose too. That's what we're taught to do as kids by movies like Beauty and the Beast and even more recently Shrek. Yet it never sticks because their are so many examples of beautiful people getting whatever they want with no comeuppance for it. After all look at how much stir Susan Boyle made. It wasn't that she had a great voice that surprised people. It was that she had a great voice and wasn't stunningly beautiful.
