![]() Character Name: Sapphire M’Adoc Atalanta Age: 17 Species: Mermaid Job: Watching the current; protecting nature; predicting storms or bad omens; occasionally accidentally drowning people. She also likes to gather debris from the shore. Relationships: She's a little flippant when it comes to relationships, and merfolk are notoriously...not...very...monogamous. She’s never actually been in “love” or anything like that, and it doesn’t faze her much that her relationships lack that affection. However, in human form things are a little different. She gets a little perplexed because human-like creatures are…astoundingly emotional. They make connections. They fall in love. It’s a little weird to her, and she doesn’t quite understand it. Family: Father - King of the Seven Seas; usually referred to as Triton Mother - Agrippina, Nereid (water nymph) She has a ton of half siblings because of her father, and many many cousins. Too many to name, in fact. She’s most close with her half sister of the same age, Jade. Physical Description: Thick shoulder length brown hair brushes her shoulders, which are dusted with a very light tan. She has dark brown eyes and stands about 5”3 in human form, 5”5 in length as a mermaid. In her natural form, she has a beautiful golden scale tail that starts at her belly and reaches to split off into fins; above the waist her body is human, and she usually has shells or golden scales that cover her bust. She can often be found with seaweed, pearls, or shells in her hair or around her neck, and she is very fond of anything particularly shiny. Personality: Sapphire, though she may seem a little crazy, is actually highly intuitive, and if you treat her right - she can give you advice on things to come. You can feel it in the water. She doesn't like sirens - at all, and doesn't like that they encroach on mermaid territory. Saph is very defiant and adventurous. She doesn’t fear a lot, short of getting snared by a few humans, but she honestly views herself as much smarter than the land-walkers. She doesn’t respond to rules or orders well, and can often - for spite - do the exact opposite of what somebody asks of her. She’s been considered “difficult”. Saph is very open, blunt, and honest - she sometimes says things that offend people, and she’s not fond of apologizing either. She has a sort of childlike enthusiasm for things she’s never experienced, and she’s optimistic - bordering on naïve. Saph can be charismatic, but she can also be arrogant, and selfish, and defensive. She doesn’t like to be critiqued, and she has a pretty sharp tongue if she’s annoyed. She’s also extremely persistent, and doesn’t really pick up on context clues if people say “never mind” and don’t want to talk about it - she will press until she gets the information she wants. Very curious, though I guess you could call it nosy too. She’s arrogant, as regards humans and other species because she’s…better. Half and half, so to speak. But Saph is a little envious of the land world, though she’d never admit it, and she likes to talk to sailors to hear stories about what it’s like. She’s competitive, and likes races or scavenger hunts, and tends to monopolize the conversation a lot. Being spoiled, she likes to be the center of attention and isn’t used to being ignored. She can be a little overdramatic, but she's pretty friendly. Above all, she has an extremely vivid imagination, which is both a blessing and a curse. She's very protective of her father and her family, even if she's a little materialistic in her tendency to don a lot of pretty things. She’s rash, and unpredictable, and sometimes doesn’t think about the consequences of her actions. However, for all this being occasionally petty or lack of subtlety, she’s a good person. She hates that mermaids have been classified in the same area as sirens, because she views them as manipulative and cruel. She’s not bitter and she’s not intentionally mean, she just needs a little more tact in dealing with people. She’s not good at getting emotionally involved, and it’s a well known rumor that mermaids are so cold blooded, they can’t ever fall in love. Saph isn’t sure what to make of that, though even she’ll admit that her ability to feel empathy for others, her capacity to feel an attachment to others, isn’t something she practices too often. Skills: Swimming - she has remarkable strength in her fin and her arms. She's pretty strong. Agile. Navigation; some premonition; an affinity with all manner of sealife and the ability to speak with them; she’s very good at braiding nets and creating jewelry - she spends a lot of time making necklaces, bracelets, barrettes. History: Sapphire was born one of the many children of Triton, her mother being a water nymph. Although her father occasionally visits, Saph spends most of her time around the lake, her mother's territory. She spends most of her days sunbathing or creating shell necklaces; she can tell you the future or what the weather to come is going to be - if you ask. She suffers from one pretty sore memory, which is probably the only thing she regrets. When she was younger, there was a terrible storm thanks to her father's wrath. Humans were swimming and one...he hit his head on a rock, or something like. He was blond, with pretty eyes - and she wanted to save him. Unfortunately, she accidentally drowned him. Wrapping her tail around him to pull him to the surface - he suffocated before she could save him. Saph doesn't know for sure if it was her fault he died or not, but because of that, she's always felt a little regret and sympathy towards the human-types. Even if merfolk are better. Saph occasionally takes human form, but it wears her out unfortunately. Over all, though, she enjoys the freedom of living underwater. |
