lol if it was truly illegal then 75% of the parents in canada would be in jail.

its a way to discipline your child, i dont care what bullshit that you are told by this society. this whole go to your room shit isnt a punishment.

child abuse is when the child is being beat mindlessly, for no reason, by an abusive parent.
I assume that Bart was only referring to spanking hard, i.e. the whole 'punt them to Bangkok' bit. 75% of parents aren't doing that.

You're raising a child, and children have to test boundaries and make mistakes as a part of growth. The point of discipline is to correct bad behavior, not put the child in pain as a punishment for what it's done. There are a lot of penalties that a parent can use rather than turning to violence, which can translate to the way that a young child interacts with other children... make them stand in a corner (reading my old diaries today made me remember how much I hated this one :tehe: ), take away video games, television, computer, etc.. There are a lot of ways to discipline a child other than spanking and sending them to their room.

Sending kids to their rooms just gives them peace and time to loathe their parents

I'm not advocating sending a child to their room as a form of discipline! Wait until a room-sender comes to this topic, then you can debate it with them. :P Corner is different because you have to stare at the wall and just listen to what other people are doing. That kind of discipline and having privileges taken away worked better than spanking, which I didn't care about. Maybe it ultimately depends on the child but I think that spanking should be a last resort.

Mushy that is exactly what i meant. Ya i guess each cultur does disipline there child differently, it also depends on the decade i guess. And just because i was never beat didn't mean i wasn't punished properly. I was never beat because my parents noticed it just made me rebel more, i would tell them to fuck off and shit so they started to just take away tv and stuff. Like once when i was 4 i wouldn't eat my broccoli and my mom made me sit at the table till i did. About 2 hours later she forced it down my throat and i puked so she never did that punishment again. It was tramitizing. So now i'm afraid to eat broccoli. :C
