One day, I just decided, if I'm going to be someone, then people people around me deserve to know who I really am, and I won't pretend to be something that I'm not. Yesterday, I was sitting in my science class beside my best friend who is a guy and not gay, and this dumb girl we like/hate came to sit with us. Somehow, we got on the topic of gays. This girl didn't know I was gay, and started trashing us, saying we didn't deserve to be seen as icons, and we shouldn't influence youth to be something that's "wrong". And my friend completely flipped. But I just sat there, laughing at her ignorance. Because at the end of the day, the only way to fight ignorance is to ignore it. Hell, I laugh at everything I hear that people have against gays. We're still people, we have rights, and yes, some of us do "shove it down your throats" but most of us lead mostly normal lives. At the end of the day, I'm laughing, because I would be in a state of depression if I wasn't able to laugh at myself and others views on me. |
