Gonna is slang Going to. And it is a word, just a slang word, which means it won't always show up in dictionaries and stuff.

It's slang, so it's not very formal, and it just sounds like a very obvious slang word, it's unprofessional sounding and very inelegant, and as such is unsuitable for written assignments, and I don't think that'll ever change. It's like aint, everybody understands it, but it's not remotely formal. They're both too unsophisticated for serious formal writing and till the tone of your text, and most school projects have some extent of formality implied...

So yeah, even adding the words to all the dictionaries won't change taht they're a poor word choice for writing serious texts.

Ugh I'm tired, but hopefully taht made some sense...

That's the part that sucks. I like the word, but not what it's associated to =/
