A Question For The Scientists

I sure hope nobody jumps on me for bringing this topic onto this very happy board.
But I have a hypothetical question. It came to mind when I was reading Jim's account of the bird lice found in the chick's nest.
If a bird is infected with the Bird Flu Virus and has bird lice and if those lice bite a human, can that virus be transmitted to the human?
Thanks

Elaine,
I think it is a very pertinent question. Hey, the only way we learn is by asking, right? :( I hope your inquiry gets an answer! Have a great day! :D

I also agree that it is a very pertinent question and would also like to know the answer.

Remember there is never a "dumb" question, only a "dumb" answer.

Just a tip:
I think you guys need to post your question in the "Have a question" section of this board. I know the Scientists will definetly answer your questions there. They are pretty good about that!

Great question....but no chance. These are feather lice. They eat up dandruf and such that is associated with the feathers. To the best of my knowledge they dont bite humans. Plus, I have never heard of feather lice vectoring the virus. Maybe Dr. Sharpe can respond to this one too.....
