Believe it or not I am shy and quiet too. I have a British sense of humour, which tends to be more witty, than funny Ha Ha. I love Abbott and Costello's 'Who's on first' routine, but hate slap-stick. So all that to say.....no matter if you feel you are funny or not.....still post regardless, because we love hearing from everybody!

Elaine, I am assuming that it is you! Didn't you make your first sky dive at age 59? Way to go! ![]() By the way did you know that Stan Laurel was born in Ulverston, a small market town in Cumbria where hubby is from. |

No, didn't know that! Do they have all sorts of museums, etc there dedicated to him?? We have 2 things I know about near where I now live: Babe Ruth hit his first home run here in Fayetteville, NC. True.... look it up. And right up the road apiece, in Smithfield, NC, is the Ava Gardner Museum. That is her home town. I actually passed it a week ago as I got lost on my way to Raleigh. It (museum) looks like a store front on a corner. Now I was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA (to age 21) and we had a few famous people there, too. Betsy Ross, for instance! And a famous kite was flown here, too! |

Yes, they have a museum, and a pub named The Stan Laurel, and a plaque on the wall of the house he was born in. |

The comments for today have been funny and informative. I enjoyed reading about the interesting sights in your home towns. Something unique to see in Vista is the antique steam engine museum. It show cases old farming equipment and implements. My dad was raised on a farm in Nebraska in the 30's and 40's; when he visited the museum it really took him back to those good 'ol days. |

Troth, I just wanted to let you know that I have submitted my nomination for the Animal Planet Hero Award for Dr. Sharpe. It took me three tries before the board would accept the submission, but it finally went through (no reason, everything was filled in). The trickiest part was in limiting the nomination to 250 words. There was so much that I wanted to say. The last day for submissions is Aug. 27th, so let's get them in, everyone! Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Troth. Good luck, Dr. Sharpe! A win of $10,000.00 would help the eagles, everyone, so let's continue to nominate Dr. Sharpe! |

Troth... thanks for the bump... t'would be a good idea perhaps to bump it every day until the deadline which is near - August 27, I believe, so now less than 2 weeks! It was because I saw this topic ('Hero of the Year Award') had filtered back up to the top that I remembered to make my submission which I just completed... Definitely the most difficult part was making all the 'points' in just 250 words! This project, led by Dr. Sharpe, is SOOOOO deserving! |

I did my nomination but am I reading it right that at the end of September, you go back to the site and then vote on the top 10 selectees? Could someone confirm if I'm reading that right? So after all the nominations we make - if he's selected, then we have to redouble our efforts and vote, vote, vote ?? |

I did put the paragraph from the AP site on today's forum because I was afraid some folks might not come back here and not realize that there's more than just nominating - I have my "vote" finger ready and the calendar marked. (I'm going to enter him a few dozen more times)!! |
