I'm going to ask a stupid question:

Does this mean I can use my sister's, nephew's and niece's names and email addresses from my home computer--to vote?

Or do I have to urge them to vote and use their own computer?

I am not positive how this works but I think they count votes by email address and then by how many times you vote so the more the merrier. I don't think the computer has anything to do with it. You could use one computer to submit several votes just under different email addresses. Or several votes from several computers and email addresses. I am not that computer savy but I think this is how it works. I will check into it.

PEOPLE’S CHOICE VOTING: Once an Entry has been posted at www.animalplanet.com, visitors to the site may vote for the Finalist whom they believe best embodies the qualities of an Animal Planet Hero of the Year. The People’s Choice voting will begin at 12:01 AM ET September 25, 2006 and will end at 11:59 PM ET October 08, 2006. Limit one vote per person/email address. Votes must be recorded by Sponsor’s server by 11:59 PM ET on October 08, 2006.

It says here one vote per person/email address so we will need lots of email addresses. This can be done by signing up to several free emails and family and friends emails addresses. So spread the word, if and when Peter is nominated we will need a crew of people to vote for him. :D

I said "if and when" that doesn't sound very positive so let me say WHEN. :D

Hello everyone.

I'm bumping this thread back up to the top as I believe the time has almost come to "vote" for our Hero, Dr. Sharpe?

Do we know at this point if Dr. Sharpe is one of the 10 finalists?

If I'm not mistaken, voting begins September 25, 2006, that's next Monday and goes thru October 8, 2006.

I also noticed in the rules that a deceased person cannot be nominated or be a finalist, so that would leave out Steve Irwin (rest in peace).

Teri/Troth, any info?

I did a quick look thru Animal Planet site and there's nothing there yet! We'll just have to keep checking but Dr. Sharpe posted several days ago that he got called but not because of Hero - darn..... and I'm afraid at this point... well we will just have to try harder next year! However Dr Sharpe and IWS are all heros !!

Peter was not contacted about being one of the finalist. (atleast the last time I emailed him) he was contacted regarding another issue. But maybe the submissions we sent in promted them to contact him, who knows. But as far as the Hero of the Year Award, I do not think he made the finalists. :(

I am now thinking that John Beard from Fox, who did the DVD on the Eagles of Catalina, needs to be contacted to do a follow up to the story line. There is a whole new chapter in the saga, CRUZ!!!! Well and the grassland chick and the other fledglings out there but mostly CRUZ!!!! That is a story indeed, not to mention her fan club.

:) That is a GREAT idea Troth! He should somehow be contacted aboutall the excitement with Cruz's hatching and all. I wonder if he and Dr. Sharpe have been in contact since the Emmy win and all??? Oops, forgot to copy the quote...it's right above me though.

Wasn't it Fox 11 that made the "Eagles of Catalina"? Maybe that's who we need to be talking to about a follow up?

That is what I said in my post above. That John Beard from Fox needs to be contacted. He is the one who did the Eagles of Catalina.

So my question to Peter is still out there?

I know I will put it in the "do you have any questions" thread.

I have sent a couple of e-mails to Fox-11 over the last month and a half...I never got a direct reply from them. I tried and I don't know what happened. Hopefully there will be a follow-up to the original story, personally I think it's a great story as I'm sure we all do...I'll keep my fingers crossed!!!

See I was trying to do more than just the fundraiser and the raffles, and falling in love and going back to work...geez...looking back I've been busy!!! :P

Despite the fact that Peter did not make the final 10, this is an excellent award and I have voted for Mona as she was the one holding the Bald Eagle! I sent her a little note about the IWS website, web cam, our forum and CRUZ! Here is her response:

Quote:

Dear Kathy:  Thanks so much for your kind support and vote!  I never dreamed I could be in the running like this.  We sure could use $10,000 for our center.  I know how exciting and wonderful it is to be able to observe the Bald Eagles up close, courting, mating, building their nest, incubating and rearing their young.  Wow!  Lots of people have no idea what they are missing!  Even though my heart breaks for the Eagles here at our center who's injuries won't allow them to ever return to the wild ~ I feel so privileged to be allowed to share a part of their wild lives with them.  They are still a creature of the wild and no one can take that away.  Today, at one of my programs, hundreds of children heard the story of DDT and how it impacted the Bald Eagle population in North America.  Ohio had only 4 eagle nests in 1979 ~ today there are 150 nest right here in Ohio and they have fledged over 200 eaglets this summer!  What a comeback.  I try to make sure kids know there is hope for the future and that they can make a difference if they become better caretakers of the earth than past generations!  They love hearing that we are counting on them.  It is very rewarding to be able to be part of their discovery of the natural world.  Thanks again for your wonderful support and enjoy Cruz and her mate's activities this winter and coming spring!  Sincerely ~ Mona

Very nice reply from Mona. Her passion shone through! Found it interesting/ironic that her address is "Castalia". Leave out the 's' and what do we have? :o It is encouraging to know there are so many people dedicated to reversing the wrong DDT did to our bald eagles all over the U.S.
