Hello My Friends...to make it easier for everyone, I'm reposting both the Original Message and the E-mail with the date correction for the Raffles here. This is one of the heaviest threads on the board and I'd like to keep it on topic if we can...Cruz, Donations, Raffles, Related Questions, Answers, Comments and of course Donation Updates...keep 'em coming...for all of you Buffalo and Bison fans...you all have my blessing to continue on Part#1, aka...the original thread...lol!!! Thanks, Darrell Here is the original message that started it all... Ok Gang... Here we go... I'm comfortable that the lead is going to hold and we have a name for the group challenge. It is The A-49 Cruzers. Please indicate this name with your donations so Dr Sharpe can keep track of all of the donation coming in for this very special fundraiser. Hulabird has already agreed to match contributions up to the first $500.00. DVD's are available and will be sent out with a minimum $25.00 donation. People, we have the chance to raise a lot of money for this very important cause, let's do it. We are planning on some raffles with prize giveaways for the group. You must be a registered member of this discussion board to be eligible for the prizes, and we are going to limit eligibility for the prizes to the first 250 people who are registered on this site, at my last look, last night we had 189 members so we still have room for 61 more people. Wanna donate, but don't care about the prizes and don't want to register, please reference "The A-49 Cruzers" group name anyway and help us make this fundraiser a fun and successful one. I will have an announcement on the dates (tentatively we will run the Challenge from now until the end of August, possible the middle of September, with the prize drawing tentatively scheduled for October 14th, which will be the 3 month anniversary of Cruz Fledging). The prizes will be determined by the total amout of donations received, the more money donated, the more prizes available. Dr Sharpe, please contact me, I would like to finalize some fun details for this fundraiser. Ok people, dig deep and let's get this show on the road. Donations can be sent to: Peter Sharpe, Ph.D. Institutute for Wildlife Studies P.O. Box 2500 Avalon, CA 90704 310-510-2728 www.iws.org Please reference "The A-49 Cruzers" so we get the proper credit and so we can keep track of the funds for this fundraiser. If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. More info to follow... And as always...thank you for your support. Darrell --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is the corrected text from the e-mail regarding the Raffle. Hi Fans of A-49 (also known as Cruz), For those of you who haven’t been to the Santa Cruz Island Eagles Nest Forum in a while, allow me to introduce myself. I am Darrell aka Eagle D on the discussion board. For those of you that know me, Hi…here is the information you’ve all been waiting for…you now…some details on the Fundraiser for Cruz and The IWS. Recently we began on online fundraiser to assist the Crew from the Institute of Wildlife Studies in their continued research in reintroducing our national bird, The Bald Eagle into its natural habitat in the Channel Islands Chain off of the Southern California coast. Eagle from this program have been tracked to the northern most reaches of this county and some have stayed in the Channel Islands. These are the ones we are trying to help. For years these proud and beautiful creature thrived until man poisoned the waters with DDT and almost drove them into extinction. It is now man who is helping these Eagles and reintroducing back into the wild and this is where we need your help. The Fundraiser details are on the discussion board under the title “The A-49 Cruzers” in the observation section. And will run until Thursday September 14th, 2006. At that time I’m going to take a break from my “Jerry Lewis working a PBS Pledge Drive” mentality, and get into my let’s give some stuff away and have some fun mode. On October 16th, 2006, the time will be announced, we will be having our online raffle and here’s how it’s going to work. You must be one of the first 250 members to join the site, as we will be using your member numbers to determine the winners. Everyone in the first 250 is automatically entered into the raffle, whether you can give money to the fundraiser or not. Any little bit helps and as you will see in the discussion board there are a lot of great ideas that you can use to raise a little money. For every $25.00 donation, you will receive a DVD explaining what the IWS does in restoring these Eagles to their homes. You must have a valid and working e-mail to win and it must be registered on the site. This is the only way we have to contact you if you win and aren’t signed in. The E-mails will be sent from the discussion board and remain hidden from others. There are several tours of the IWS facilities that will be offered as prizes. You will be given an option of accepting the tour our taking one of the other gifts if you are not able to taking the tour. This is so that it doesn’t go to waste by being won by someone who could not physically make the trip and the tour. The tour is free, getting there comes out of your own pocket. When the time comes for the drawing, which will be done by Dr Sharpe himself. I will be e-mailed the list of winning numbers and will contact the first group of possible tour winners. If you win one of the tours and it’s something that you can commit to following through with then, you’ve won the Tour. If it is something you can’t do, let me know, so that the next winner will have the choice. Once off of the tours are accounted for we will move into the other stuff. Customized Adoption Certificates, photos from 7 weeks and from banding, perhaps some DVD’s as well. I will notify all of the winners beginning with the Tours beginning October 16th. You will have 24 hours to respond to the e-mail that I will send to you. If you do not respond within 24 hours then the next person on the list will get a chance and you will forfeit your chance to win. If everyone is online we should be able to rip right through the winners, if not it might take a day or two to give everything away. We will continue in this fashion until all the prizes are accounted for. How many prizes are we talking about…that all depends on you. The more we raise, the more gift we will have available to us from the IWS for the raffle, and Dr Sharpe has already stated that for every $500.00 beyond the first $1000.00 that we bring in, he will, as a bonus offer another Tour. My friends, thank you for taking the time to follow our little buddy Cruz as he embarks on his journey of life. Thank you for supporting the work that the IWS does with these amazing birds. Thank you for giving to help it continue. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me through the discussion board. Thanks again for your help, Darrell Eagle D |

I want to take a quick minute and thank someone here. Hulabird, Deb...Thank you so much for constantly coming up with ideas and suggestions for ways that people can make money to donate for this great cause. This originally began as an idea of yours and I told you I'd take care of everything else...but you've been plugging away and I do appreciate it. To eveyone else I give you my continued thanks for your support of this fundraiser. And for all the thank you messages I've seen directed at me, let me say your welcome. Sometime I feel like Jerry Lewis in the MDA Telethon...in fact I really feel like him now...it's been a few days since our last donation update from Dr. Sharpe, but he is on a well deserved vacation and still manages to put up with a dial up connection to keep in touch with us...Thanks Peter...and now as I glance over to Ed McMahon...Can I have a tympani please.... D

Thanks for the kind words Darrell. I want to thank all of you who have sent in your donations. And for those who keep the forum updated with the comings and goings of Cruz. And of course for the screens shots, Cumbrian, Aline, and all the others. Thanks to the IWS crew and of course Dr Sharpe. And last but not least, our little princess Cruz! |

I saw this question somewhere else a while back but I don't know if it was answered: If I, living on the East coast, should be lucky enough to win a tour for 2, could I give it to my cousin and his wife who live in Oxnard, CA? She is a kindergarten teacher and has had this cam on every day in her classroom. It is thru them that I was made aware of all this. Thanks Elaine the :ph43r: |

Elaine, If your member number is selected for a tour and you wish to give it to them and it will be used, that is your choice, as long as it doesn't go to waste, we don't want any of the prizes to go to waste. D

This may be kind of of topic, but for the adopting of the nests, I think the West End nest on Catalina would be soo cool becuase of the three adults that make up the nest. Just an opinion How cool would it be to have a cam like A49's there?

Tasha, Try the link below that Teddy Neal supplied for us on the Aug 2 thread and you can see the West End Nest. It has a camera. When I checked a minute ago there was a parent on the nest. http://www.iws.org/nestcam.htm Mimi

I am reposting this from Part#1...it is a message from Dr Sharpe...Tympani Please... Hello, I just received a list of new contributions from my assistant. The A-49 Cruzers are now up to $3305 in contributions. I sent out 27 DVDs last Friday for contributions I had received by the 28th. If you are one of those people and have not received a DVD by the end of today, please e-mail me at sharpe@iws.org. We had one DVD returned because the address label had fallen off and I'm afraid it may have happened to others. Thanks. -------------------- Peter Sharpe Institute for Wildlife Studies Bald Eagle Restoration Program ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Way to go everyone, in about a week we reached half of our goal of adopting all 6 nest. Let's not stop now, let's keep aiming for the best and let's soar past the nests and beyond. I've said this before, and you all know I'm going to say it again...We are doing a great job here...but, I know we can do better. Peter, thanks for the update, hope your vacation continues good. Talk to you when you get back, Thanks again everybody, Darrell

Hi Everyone, Just wanted say welcome to guests and our newer members. We are at 205 members which of course means 45 more and we'll be full. Pretty Cool HUH!!! More members, more donations, more prizes...more time for yard sales, and searches on goodsearch.com. More time for bake sales and car washes, for watching the nest, for another final, final toast, another reprieve for the cam (one could only hope), a few more looks at the dragon, a couple of pounds of chocolate, possibly a rename A-49 poll (I must be out of my mind), suggestions for a 12 step eagle cam addiction program poll, and more... September 14th is the last day of the offical fundraiser...2nd month anniversary of her fledging. Raffle Notifications begin on October 16th. This restoration project needs our continued support, our contributions are a drop in the bucket to what is needed, but we are making a difference, and with your help we can continue to make a difference. Thank you all for your contributions, Darrell

I would like to introduce myself Dave and my wife Jann. We contributed $25 dollars to the IWS today and referenced "The A-49 Cruzers". We started an automatic $25 donation to be sent by our bank on the 1st of every month with credit to "The A-49 Cruzers". For those of you on the Infotec forum, I am known as Cal Dave there. |

Thank you for your very generous donation, to the IWS, and for crediting it to the 'A-49 Cruzers' and Welcome, Dave and Jann to this forum. When I have visited the Infotec forum (read, not post) I have loved your photographs and video clips. In fact, I hope you don't mind, I brought one or two of the videos over from the Infotec, Santa Cruz Island Eaglet link, to share them here, with our forum members. ( Giving you full credit for them, of course). May I ask you....what program do you use to capture your videos? |
