Well, IWS could select a weekend in Catalina for all the recipients, "be there or be square" so to speak. There are no buses on Catalina, but there are plenty of jeeps, I've done a back country trip there myself. |

They actually conduct the tour in the IWS Pick Up Truck...and it might be able to seat three. This is a very personalized tour...one of the things that makes it so special. Don't forget there will be a chance for some of you to be there right before they foster next years chicks into the nest and see the chick up close and personal. This is one prize that will be limited in how many total we will have, and it will be determined after Dr Sharpe returns from vacation, depending how much we raise. I'll let you all know when it's been determined. Darrell

Thanks for all your efforts, Eagle D, in coordinating the raffles with IWS. I can go to the islands anytime, so I'm hoping that someone special wins the grand prize...like Cumbrian. |

I ditto that KLJ!! And I also hope that the tours are won by someone who doesn't have easy access to the islands like we have. (Though these tours will be very special) Hopefully they will be able to make the trip here, as I understand that we have many members quite far away. Bea in Camarillo |

Hi all, just wanted to bring this topic back up. We've been starting a lot of topics lately, and things go to the bottom of the list so quickly. Great going with the contributions everyone! Darrell: This is not a bump (or is it?)

Yes it is a "Bump", and I thank you for it...you saved me a night of having to come up with another big donation speech... Bea...Officially, this is one as well. Ok while I'm here...I'm just gonna say thanks again. Welcome to our newest members...lately it seems we are starting to vault forward in memberships, 30 spots left open for the raffles...this is good...and if all of you new members have read this thread then you all know what I have to say... I'm looking forward to an update...can I have a tympani please..... Is this the one that we get nest number 4, and pass the $4000.00 mark in donations...I hope, I hope, I hope!!! D Hmmmm, guess this turned into a "Big Bump"

Bea: Keep in mind that just because there are folks who have easy access to the islands, doesn't mean they have easy $$$ to get there. I think the raffle will turn out the way it's supposed to in the BIG plan of life and the right people will win for whatever the right reason....and who knows what that is?? |

I'm no better than anybody else...I just took an idea and ran with it...and I'm still running!!! I did sales years ago, but none recently. This is however something that anyone can do, if it is something they truly believe in, and I do truly believe in what we are doing here and more importantly what the IWS is doing in bringing the Bald Eagles home to the Channel Islands Chain. I spent 12 years of my life driving ambulances, maybe that's where I developed some good people skills, and that desire to help. Like I said...it's easy when you believe in it with all your heart, and I'm sure that everyone of you will agree with me. Thank you one and all for the kind words sent in my direction. Can we have that tympani now... D

Hi Bea - You're right - living here, we do have easy access to Catalina. It is my understanding, though, that a person can't just decide to go on a tour with Dr. Sharpe once they got there (Catalina). That only comes with a $500 donation. At least that's the way I understand it. Of course, the $500 goes to an excellent cause, but. . . whew, that's a lot of fish filets. Somebody, please correct me if I'm wrong on this.

I do believe that the tour comes from a $1000.00 donation, Dr Sharpe helped us with the Raffle Prizes by offering an additional tour for every $500.00 that we raised beyond the original $1000.00. D

Okay, how do I say this... Peppermint, I didn't mean to say that just because we live here we can automatically go to the Islands. I know only too well that $$ do not come easy. I simply meant that we do have that one advantage of being closer to them than others are. CarolAnn: The actual donation for a tour like that would be 1000.00. Dr. Sharpe gave us a special deal after we donated the first 1000.00 by offering additional tours at 500.00. There is no way I could buy one of those special tours myself, and of course I want to be a winner too. I was only thinking in terms of a daytrip like Karen's when I made my comments. Sorry for the confusion, guess I wasn't very clear. Edit: Sorry, just saw you guys already clarified the cost/donation issue |
