Dr Sharpe, please see my posting on the 8/6/06 thread, page 8. I believe I saw a bald eagle in Ventura near the beach. Is there a way to confirm this sighting from any of the birds you are tracking?

P.S., Please see Patti's posting after mine. She says she saw a bald eagle near the base. Can you verify visits to the mainland?

I just looked at our data and neither of the possible sightings were bald eagles for which we are getting GPS data.

I just looked at our data and neither of the possible sightings were bald eagles for which we are getting GPS data.

I guess the next question is, how many eagles are being monitered with GPS and how many are NOT being tracked? Like Patti, I'm not 100% sure, but what other bird has a wingspan like that? I saw one off in the distance at Santa Cruz Island a couple weeks ago and observed his flight behavior. It's much different than seagulls or crows, but similar to a hawk. This bird was bigger than those birds anyway, our hawks are not much bigger than seagulls. One thing I do know, it was not a Condor!!!

Anyway, I think it's a possibility that I did see an eagle, I just wish it had been verified by IWS....

Thanks for answering my question.
