The eagles have been feeding primarily on feral pigs for the past five years after fledging from the towers. The feral pig eradication program has been very helpful in feeding our birds and saved us a lot of time in having to find and provide food for the young birds because there have been abundant carcasses the past 2 years. The pigs are also a "clean" source of food with little DDT contamination, which reduces the contaminant burdens in the birds and increases the chances of successful breeding. |
