I hope I haven't missed this topic elsewhere. If so, I apologize. I was wondering if K10 and K26 built their nest on top of a really old nest that had been used long ago by other eagles. I realise that no eaglets have hatched on the island for many years, but some adult eagles could possibly have had an unsuccessful nest in the same spot. Had anyone on the team noticed an old nest there, before this spring? |

We hadn't seen a nest before we found the birds in it. Based upon the size and depth of the nest, I think there was something there before, but whether it is a historic bald eagle nest (wouldn't have been used in at least 40-50 years because eagles disappeared from the islands), an old osprey nest (some have been seen in the area in the past few years), or perhaps even a nest that K-10 started building last season is unknown. |

Thank you, Dr. Sharpe. It would be fascinating to watch eagles building or rebuilding their nest. |

K-10 may have started building a nest last season? Do eagles...or the males...or...start building a nest BEFORE they find a mate? |

They can build a nest in the hopes of attracting a mate. |
