Dr. Sharpe, Is the Eagle #11 of Grassland nesting fame the same #11 that was saved from the ocean by divers? Why aren`t the ALPHA characters utilized to differentiate? Larry |

Larry, I'll attempt to field this question in the interest of Dr Sharpe continuing his vacation. A-11 is a female and is the one rescued and rehabilitated but is not the parent of the grassland eaglet A-60. K-11 (Dad) and A-04 (Mom) would be the parents of A-60 from the Grass Land Nest. K-11 was fostered in 2001 from the West End nest on Catalina, and would therefore sport an Orange Tag, While A-04 with her blue tag was released on Santa Cruz. The Blue tags are indicative of those birds fostered or released or in the case of Cruz and A-60, hatched in the wild on Santa Cruz. The use of a letter with the number is not needed due to the color coding on the tag. Orange (K) for Catalina, Blue (A) for Santa Cruz. I hope this answers your question, Darrell

Thanks for the answer Darrell. And the other part was why don`t we all use the ALPHA character, as you just did, so we can keep score of "who is on first"? Larry |
