Peter: I noticed that with both sets of parents on the island, the male is a year older than the female. Is this typical? Is this nature's way of assuring brothers don't mate with sisters? Or DO brothers ever mate with sisters? Or is this just a coincidence? |

I think this was coincidence. As long as a pair is together, all the offspring produced are going to be brothers and sisters, so being different ages would not guard against inbreeding. There must be someway in which eagles identify each other, but I don't know what it is. Perhaps vocalizations. |
