One more reply to Nancy, I answered you e-mail but it ended up in the IWS office and they e-mailed me back, telling me they too loved cats and altho I sent it to the wrong address, they were so nice in responding to me. I was trying to tell you about my 4 kitties and how much they mean to me... I know your Lulu was special to you and you will miss her so..didn't want you to think I ignored you e-mail..Linda

lala Thanks you are so sweet..and thank IWS as well. Day by day things get better. You have all been so great with prayers and support. Hope to see you on the trip.

One learns very quickly in Australia that these Aussies love to 'stir' ~ I was initially called a 'septic tank'! When I questioned that name, I was told "it rhymes with Yank (tanK) and septic is just added on to stir!
Another time, a young (early 20s) Aussie called me a "Subbie". Whatza Subbie I innocently asked ~ Ans: I was a girl, sub human! I had a quick reply to that - "If I'm a Subbie, you must be a Nubbie!? Whatza that he asked (setting himself up), NON human my smiled reply! That shut him up (and the laughter of other observers).

Brits are called Pommies, Short for POMs (Prisoner of Mother England). Canadians, Cnaks (no other derogatory term I have heard tho) and New Zealanders, well, its just not repeatable here!

Yes, Yank is not a good word for us US citizens traveling abroad, it has a bad connotation.  And given the current political situation, you want to keep your head low if you are traveling abroad.

Well, I dunno......... I have some friends in Australia and tho they are not crazy about political leaders, our or theirs, they love and are allies to us Yanks.
Being career military, I have lived in and traveled to many places outside the USA (last time 2 yrs. ago) and this is one Yank who carries her head high at all times.

As you should ElaineRuth! Yanks are generally LOVED here in Oz too, but not Pres Bush, but most of us dont like our Prime Minister anymore either....

Karen was a little misleading, Yank is really NOT a derogatory term by Aussies, they just love to stir (with love).

Hulabird, did you delete because you were talking about New Zealanders?? :P

I understand, Hulabird. I was going to comment and even PM you re that issue, but I think we need to keep this board free and clear of political and social issues. This board is very special...

psst.................. I'm still here. shhhh.

Oz, the reason I asked for your name was, I was going to share a signature with you. But I don't have a Kathy or Kath. I do have Katie (my 2 yr old granddaughter's name). Well, I'll post them here for you to do what you will with them. Maybe someone else has a Katie, which IMHO is a sweet, friendly name. ;)

You are so kind Karen. I always want this board to stay the way it is even next year when we will have a billion more members. There are so many other boards to go to if you want to fuss. The dark forest comes to mind immediately.

Oh ER, they are beautiful signatures, unfortunately I just dont feel like a Katie and never have. Had a History teacher INSIST on calling me Katie (and at times Kate), I never could get used to it...

Another Aussie name I've never been able to get used to is MUM (instead of MOM). ;)
