Dave and Jann Thanks for the great photos/videos. Yes, I believe that was a Great Blue Heron taking off from that tree. Beautiful birds aren't they? I admire you two for toughing it out in that boat or was it the boat? or perhaps some inner peace spirits? Great job and looked like a fun day |

[/QUOTE]margiew - this sounds like a match made in heaven... while athletic in my own mind, my body does not follow suit... I have severe arthritis in my spine and still may try the epidural injections in my low back but the facet injections I had in my neck did not give me enough relief to justify the expense and the time from work (though only a day, my husband had to give up at least half a day to drive me there, wait while I came out from the anesthetic and then take me back home). I did opt for some sessions of Physical Therapy that taught me some good home excercises that give me some relief - IF I make myself do them regularly ... the drugs help also ! Bird-watchers always have the 'excuse' to remain stationary while peering through binoculars and consulting their field-guides! I'm counting on this relative to the Santa Cruz trip on October 22nd... I have been following with interest the discussions of the relative difficulty of the hike/walk and have committed to going even if I take the 'wus' trail. Are you going? I hope so! Guess I don't know how to do the quote so I copy pasted. Joanie I have had several of the facet/epidural injections. They should be considered more diagnostic but they don't tell you that. Where do you live? I can commizerate on the injections. I'd be happy to discuss that issue with you!! Do they have a wussie trail? HHHmmmmI may go if that is the case. |

Ok I guess I don't know how to make my comments in a diff color either (sigh) Now I see where you live...Huntington Beach. They don't tell you those injections should only be used as a diagnostic tool. Sometimes you have to have a series of three in a row for them to be useful. I am right there with you all the way my dear! If you can get in pool therapy...now that really is thereapudic. That has helped me more than anything else. If they have an Easter Seal pool where you are the therapists are always wonderful. |

Red-tails seem to make a lot of noise when they are together. I've not seen this particular ritual, but I'd think there would be a lot of vocalizations involved too. |

Sandie, Let's see if I can help. Go back into the section to use this stuff. Note that after you have chosen B, I, SIZE, COLOR, etc, there is a "Close all tags" You either need to close them or click on that to close them. Then, to see if it works, click on "preview post" before "Add reply". That way, if it didn't do what you thought it would, you can change it. See how that works! |

Hi Folks, we have been out today checking out some local Farmer's Markets in Ladysmith and Cedar. Saw three juvenile eagles whilst we were driving, all enjoying the thermals..of course we didn't have our camera with us.. and they were too high anyway to get a great shot, even if we had! Hulabird, Powell River is a small city, on the South Mainland Coast know as, the Sunshine Coast. To get there you have to go by ferry. It is opposite Comox, where the photographs were taken of those other eagles, posted, if I remember correctly by ElaineRuth, much earlier on the forum. Below is some information about what transportation you need to take to get there. We haven't been yet....and we have been in Nanaimo 19 years! [While not on an island, Powell River is accessible to vehicles only by ferry; the surrounding inlets (fjords) banked by mountainous terrain have made inland roads thus far unfeasible, however, a proposal has been made for the construction of a road to Squamish. BC Ferries serves Powell River from Comox on Vancouver Island to the west, and from the Sunshine Coast to the south east, via a route from Earl's Cove near Skookumchuck Narrows. Since the Sunshine Coast is similarly isolated from the rest of the BC mainland, vehicles traveling to Powell River from Vancouver must take two ships to reach it (across Howe Sound and the Jervis Inlet if travelling via Sechelt, and across Georgia Strait twice if going via Nanaimo).] ostrich2, very well put. It is difficult to watch the prey being brought to the nests, be it fish or bird or .... but we know that is how nature works....survival of the fittest. |

The nest looks so beautiful right now. Like it's being spotlighted with just the arrows pointing on it. |

sandie... I got your messages even tho not in different colors/sizes/fonts... Denny gave you good advice... you can just use your curser and highlight a particular word/phrase/sentence/paragraph and then click above the posting window to choose how you want it to look - play around with it a little bit even if you are not planning on posting at the moment and use the 'preview post' button to see how it looks as you experiment. And, yes, the 'pain mangagement' Doc and the Orthopedic Surgeon did tell me that it might take a series of 3 and I would have continued on if I felt ANY incremental difference - I was trying to avoid surgery (and have, so far) and I felt that the prescribed physical therapy was the most helpful and something that I had 'poo-poo'ed' heretofore. I have gone to a chiropractor(s) for close to 30 years and they have all been very 'zen-like' in their approach, lecturing me about my stress load and how it relates and even how to set up my desk so that I don't place any more strain than necessary on my spine/vertebrae - in other words, treating the 'whole' person holistically, not just manipulating the spine. I always thought that a physical therapist would not have anything more to offer but the young gal they sent me to just a short distance from my house and office gave me some v-e-r-y simple 5 minute exercise routines that have been more help than anything else and I am extremely grateful to her. If I make myself DO them several times a day instead of just complaining while sitting at the computer for hours, I am in MUCH better shape! Also found an anti-inflamatory that I tolerate well and that works for me - switched to Mobic after the scare involving some of the others (Cox 2 inhibitors)on the market. I know that NON-weight-bearing exercise, such as in a pool, is recommended and I haven't tried that - I'll check it out.... Thanks! Please read the posts in the 'calling locals in Ventura, etc...' about the upcoming trip - I think it will allay your fears of it being too tough a hike... worst case, those not up to it, can sit at the picnic benches and wait for the eagles to come to us!! |

Thank you, Peter, for your input. I would sure prefer to think it was a courtship dance as opposed to the alternative. I could not imagine a bird of that size being carried away by another bird. I was kinda stunned to hear/see it at all. I guess you can look for it in the spring? |

I'm so glad you shared that picture, Cumbrian! I was trying to do a screenshot, but when we rearranged cords on my computer yesterday to free up a USB port for me, the drive I had previously Frapps to save them on was not there and I forgot to tell it. In plain English, I wasn't able to get the shot. So glad you did! And I love the 'triangling down'. Another good one for Cruzerisms....speaking of which.....Tiger, you need to add 'nestadore' to Cruzerisms too! |

Thanks for the info on Powell Island Cumbrian. Do you have hummingbirds where you live? Seems a little cold up there for them to me but then again air conditioning at the lowest setting is cold to me. Thanks for all the great pics and videos Eagle Duo. You allow those of us (me) who never goes anywhere to experience the wonder of the outdoors. I love all the giraffe pictures. They're such gentle creatures. How 'bout all our new Cruzerisms today? Tiger you are absolutely right! We have built a strong foundation for this nest. Hopefully the riff raff who might try to charge the party next year will get it and be gone. I heard the new dark forest has a one strike with that and you're out rule. But to me, its much better to get along naturally than to have to 86 a bully. Well I have finally tamed the beast in this computer that has been vexing me to death all weekend. They usually don't kick my butt like this but sometimes a geek just needs a challenge. I got this one 3rd hand from 2 other geeks who tried it first. Of course they aren't nearly as aged as I. Young pups.

KLJinUSA, did you get my reply back to your PM a couple of days late and as usual a million dollars short? "Holla back" if we need to discuss.
