Ostrich 2 - These osprey are about the same age as the eagles. They fledged at the same time. The big difference is they appear spoiled by their parents. Every day they come back to the nest to be fed and the parents oblige. I know nature is tough to watch and we all love every living thing; in my mind I had thought fish died very shortly after being taken out of the water. Silly me! Joanie - I sympathize with your pain. Arthur and I are very good friends. Although it has not affected by back, the bones in my feet have bayonetted and therefore, I cannot walk much. Thus, no treks that others will have to take pictures of me to enjoy. Bee |

Thanks Cockney, you can get to me by clicking on the e-mail button below my name. I'd love to see them. And I'll bet a lot of others would too. You wanna start a new thread called nature pics under the photos and videos section. Well, I have to run to the store for some spaghetti (thanks for the idea Elaine, I've been craving it ever since you mentioned it) and some more inner peace. Back in a flash. |

Yes, Hulabird we do have hummingbirds here. Remember we are on the Pacific Coast too. Sheltered by the Rockie Mountains. We have a feeder outside the kitchen window. There are at least three different ones coming at present. The Rufous hummingbird remains here on the Island during the winter. Two winters ago we had a really bad icy one, so I was taking the feeder in at night and getting up really early, even before the birds, to put it out again so that it wouldn't freeze on them! Roy has a special gadget that he made to move the feeder down from the hook, however I am always scared that I will drop the darn thing so I stand on a stool and reach up from the deck to remove it and put it up.....because it was so icy on the deck I also had a piece of scrap carpet under the stool to stop it slipping...what a performance each morn/night but it worked and the birds were equally surprised every day that they could just drink the nectar without breaking the ice! We also change our 'sugared water nectar' every three days in the summer if it is really hot so that it doesn't ferment etc. |

Gee.....I never thought of the sugar-water fermenting in the heat. Poor little hummers! I put out a feeder the first year we lived here, but I stopped cuz it attacted more wasps than it did hummingbirds. Speaking of wasps, we haven't had nearly as many this year as we have in past years. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. It is nice to be able to go outside without having to worry about getting stung. But I was wondering why. Dave wonders if it has anything to do with whatever they're using to kill mosquitos because of the West Nile Virus threat. If so, what kind of impact is that gonna have on our environment here down the line? Makes ya wonder, huh? Well, with that deep thought, I'm gonna call it a night. Night! See ya'll tomorrow! |

It is very late and I'm bleary-eyed, but wanted to thank Eagle Duo for the wonderful Lake Hemet eagle video I viewed earlier. I'm having trouble finding other photos that I think were mentioned. Sorry for this late thank you and hope you see it tomorrow. Goodnight. |
