Good morning dear friends. I hope you all had a pleasant weekend! I'm still in shock from Penn State's terrible loss on Saturday. Oh well...no matter what I'm behing the Nittany Lions 100%! That's what I want to do for my 40th birthday...go to a game with my college roommate! I haven't been back to the campus since 1991! Today, as many of you already know, is just about the saddest day for our nation. If anyone on this forum has been affected by these horrific terror attacks personally, I am so, so sorry. I don't know how you could even turn on the t.v. Me, on the other hand, feel that I owe it to all of the families that were hurt and for our military overseas fighting desperately to keep us safe, will watch non-stop. I will never forget. NEVER! Today is Patriot Day in America, so, if you have an American flag, please hang it out in support of all of the beautiful people that make up our nation. Sorry to start off the day on a sad and somewhat political note, but I just can't get past it. Got your PM Hula...maybe in a bit I'll be able to "PEP" it up a bit. Oh, my four year old starts his VERY first day of pre-school this afternoon. I'll posts pictures later. His routine is to sign in, get a carpet square, put it down for circle time, then hug his mommy good-bye. Then, I guess, I'm supposed to leave! I wonder what his teachers will do when I grab a carpet square and sit down too!  You think I'm kidding! And to think I was a first grade teacher for sooooo long! I already have tissues in my pockets!!!

Good morning MaMiMoBaMom and everybody! We will be putting up our flags at dawn. No we never forget. Does anybody know if the protocol says they should be at half mast? Congratulations on your 4 year old's first day of pre-school and not for a minute do I think you're kidding about your carpet square. You crack me up  Everybody have a safe and happy day. Waiting for the nest to come up to make sure my "eagles" are still there. I need to hallucinate at least once a day to keep my sanity the rest of the time. (The 70s were veddy, veddy goot to me) |

Our flag is already up. Sorry, Hulabird, I don't know what the protocol is on flying it at half mast or not. Might try doing a GoodSearch on 911 tributes? I can still remember sitting here in horror and disbelief watching the TV that morning. I only got to see the twin towers once.....shortly before they were opened for business. I can't understand the kind of hate that perpetrates such an act. It's not natural. We all started out as sweet, innocent babies....loving and accepting of everyone. And then they're taught to hate. My heart goes out to all the families, not just from 911, but from any 'act of hate'. Good luck, MaMiMoBaMom. I know it's hard. It's not been any easier for me with my grandkids either. Everyone have a 'goot' day! |

I live on Long Island, NY - I did not personally know any who lost their life but our lives here are very different now. My husband works on Wall Street and I fear for him many days even though there is a strong police and military presence there! But because of those events 5 years ago - I currenly have 7 nieces/nephews serving in the military (1 returned from Iraq in Feb / 1 is returning from Iraq in 2 weeks / and 2 of them will probably be serving there within the next year) I don't think they would ever have made the choice to be a part of the military had these events not happened. They all have stepped up to the plate and do what they do as Marines/Air Force/Army participants because they believe so strongly. So when people say the youth of today are lazy and useless - those people don't know the truth! I am afraid every day that they are away but not only for them, for all the rest who serve. ![]() My nephew holding his nephew! |

Harpo, I personally thank your nieces and nephews for their service. My husband served in the first gulf war and was retired when this one started. He tried to go back after 9/11 but they refused him because of his diabetes. There are a lot of military bases on this island. Don't tell my boss but anybody who came in with their computers who mentioned that they just got back from the war or a wife or husband who said they needed their computer back fast because they would not be able to email their spouse in Iraq or Afghanistan while it was down got their service free and priority. Please take time out today to honor a military person, policeman, or fireman. |

There's a new program going to start up this TV season called Men in Trees and is based in Alaska. I've gotten a season pass on Tivo. Looks promising for bald eagle viewing. |

I think things had started to change for me the year before (2000), but in September 2001, I was between jobs and was watching the Today Show that morning. The usual break occurred and went to local @ 7:50AM., but local just turned it back to network for "some breaking news" where they tried to figure it out. Before the second tower was hit, I had called my Mom and asked her to turn on her TV. We watched together until well after both towers fell. I visited New York in November 2001 and tried to visit ground zero, but no platform had as yet been set up and you couldn't get that close. Dump truck after dump truck exited the site 24/7 carrying off what was the World Trade Center. I have dust that fell on NYC 09/11/01 which is in a vial worn around my neck. We can assume it contains all manner of stuff, including, possibly, human remains. The memorials and "have you seen" attempts of loved ones to comfort themselves and/or find relatives were everywhere and over-powering! Glimpses into the firehouses where many now dead firemen once worked were heartbreaking! I love New Yorkers, especially their firemen & police! My hat goes off to all military, past & present; all police & firemen, too! Thank you! |

Good Morning Everyone, Yes, a very sad day today.......we here in Canada remember too. There is so much hate in the world today...mostly in the name of religion...but there is also a lot of good too. I would just like to say how proud we are how Canada responded that day, when America's airspace was closed, by allowing planes to land across the country, but none responded more than Gander, Newfoundland. It is the little things that matter...as well as people there feeding and accommodating thousands of stranded passengers... the local pharmacist and the lady who is the Director of the Animal shelter also came to the rescue. Here is part of a news story by Tara Brautigam of the Canadian Press that I came across today on the Global Maritimes site. [When the planes landed, no one was allowed to deplane for at least several hours. Smokers cooped inside the cabins were getting jittery, as were hundreds of others who needed their prescription drugs, which were stuck in stowage. Kevin O'Brien responded. The pharmacist cleaned the town's inventory of nicotine gum and prescription medication - matching generic foreign drug names to Canadian brands - satisfying everyone's needs, real and imagined. "You don't come up with all the reasons why you can't do it, you come up with all the ways that you could," says O'Brien, now the province's business minister. Other tasks that could have easily been overlooked in the chaos of securing lodging for the thousands of visitors were fulfilled. While the rest of the town scrambled to find food and shelter for its new guests, Bonnie Harris climbed into the plane cargo holds to feed and clean the kennels of 21 dogs and cats. At one point, Harris, the director of Gander's animal shelter, came across a cage with a pill taped to it. She prevented what would have been certain death for the epileptic cat inside.] Don't know about you....but that made my day....even 5 years later....just to read about ordinary people helping others..people/animals that day. MaMiMoBa Mom...is this Michael's induction day? I always had at least two mornings where the child came and the parent, normally mom, stayed too whilst the child played, but mom was there in plain sight. That seemed to make it easier for everyone.......but as you say it is normally the parent that 'feels' it more than the child who is too busy to notice! ![]() |

Good Morning All - It is definitely a day we will never forget. I watched MSNBC this morning, since it was the actual tape, but most interesting this year was the Controllers interview done the other night with Tom Brokaw. If you didn't get a chance to see it, you really need to. It was what those men went through at the beginning, not knowing what was to come. My prayers are with all of you, and all of America, today. Have a happy and peaceful day!!! |

Hey, Skellis.... 'Mornin'! How're you doing today? On the road to recovery I hope... a family member had what we assumed was food poisoning 2 weeks ago and it was an ordeal... the Doctor recommended GatorAde diluted in half with water to keep the electrolytes in balance. Your's seems to have hung on for quite awhile... my Doc said food poisoning is usually out of your system, tho there may be some residual weakness, in 36 hours... this was in answer to my question as to 'how do we know if food poisoning or the flu'? |

I don't think any of us will ever forget 09/11/2001. It still gives me chills. I visited Ground Zero last year and it appeared to be an emotional experience for everyone there - including tourists from overseas. I could not believe my ears yesterday - some idiot was on Fox News saying that no planes flew into the towers - that what we saw were cartoons - and that the buildings were imploded from inside by the US government!!! The man must be mad. |

Good Morning--yes, this is a day never to forget--and my sister's birthday. She said it has never been the same since 9/11. Cumbrian: thank you for the touching 9/11 stories. I never take for granted what a wonderful neighbor we have. Maybe I should not speak here, but I have been ashamed of some of the US's verbal behavior toward our great neighbor--Canada. I have cringed at times. I met an Iranian woman last week. She lived in Canada for 19 years before coming to the USA. My impression was that she left ONLY because of the colder Canadian climate--8 months out of the year, she said. She's from Iran. She had nothing but great praise for Canadian people and your beautiful country. She praised your health system. She could not say the same for our system. This woman does not like fighting & wars, does not like what is going on in the world, and is grateful to live in the USA. Still, it was obvious how much she misses Canada. If any of you local ladies have a bone density scan at PV Hospitial, this Iranian woman is the tech for that test. That is how I met her. My first cousin is going to, or has recently departed for Afghanistan. He is well into his 40's & he wanted to go. His father would be so proud of him, were he still alive. I will worry about him, but am proud of his brave spirit. It is extremist behavior that is bad; this is what I hold close to me. The "enemy" hides behind good faith--everywhere, in any religion. It is a terrible plight of extremist enemies. May all our loved ones be protected in their acts of courage. May innocent people in the Middle East be protected as well. May we find our enemy--and may the innocent be spared. I am weary of battle and lost lives on all sides. 9/11, I will not forget you. I say this with a heavy heart. I'm sorry. Forgive me. |
