Inconceivable. Must be one of the same idiots that try to tell us the Holocaust never happened. How can people say things like that? Do they actually believe it? Or do they think they're being funny? I just got back from my morning routine. Was saddened to see very few flags on houses. Our flag and one other flag are the only ones in our neighborhood. In reference to your question earlier, Hulabird, I passed 2 schools and one other business with actual flag poles. The 2 schools had their flags at half mast. The business didn't. |

Hey Joanie, I'm going to be out most of the day but I'd like to talk with you more about our back issues and walking. I didn't sign up for the Oct. 22 trip because I was concerned I'd hold up everyone else. It didn't occur to me that I could remain in the picnic area. Now I think it's too late to sign up, darn! I'll check back in when my outside errands are done. |

LBtheScott I can't believe someone would actually believe that. Everyone thought it was some one else's terrorism in Oklahoma too until we found out. Someone needs to find BinLaden. Then each American that want's to could have 1 min with him...not kill him but anything else. I can think of a few things. Unfortunately, I only think that is the beginning of what needs to be done. My training in Hypnotherapy says that babies are born with only two fears...the fear of falling and of loud noises. After the womb I can see that. Everything else is a learned behaviour. Very sad to think about how hate is taught. Hula Bird...no more whacky tobaccy for you!! I can see things that aren't there with Vicodin too....no more of that stuff for me. Skeills...Food poisening should not still be affecting you. Did you go to the Dr or just assume what it was based on your chosen food product? Be safe and go to the Dr. MaMiMoBa That feeling never goes away...this is just the start of the worrying and seperation anxiety. Don't worry it's normal. My Great-Grandson just started Kindergarten ***Hard for me to believe*** Not that he is going - just the part of me being old enough to say that! Cumbrian where are you??? I am taking my final antiobiotic...thank GOD!! I don't like what it does to the inner workings of my stomach....yucky and I can't go too far from home without an extra set of clothing. Got to start getting my "life" together now that my desk is all clean and pretty I can actually think about that. This tenting should be a four letter word. I gave up watching ANY news so if something good happens everybody***let me know! |

Hello, forum friends. I've been thinking for the past few days about what to write here on this sad day. The most appropriate piece of writing that I found to express how I feel is the following one. I don't know who the author is to give them credit. I also don't know if the scientific facts are correct. It's the thought that counts. I just wanted everyone to know that I was thinking of them. I saw the events unfold live on TV that morning because I was at home. The world stood still in shock. Eagles in a Storm Did you know that an eagle knows when a storm is approaching long before it breaks? The eagle will fly to some high spot and wait for the winds to come. When the storm hits, it sets its wings so that the wind will pick it up and lift it above the storm. While the storm rages below, the eagle is soaring above it. The eagle does not escape the storm. It simply uses the storm to lift it higher. It rises on the winds that bring the storm. When the storms of life come upon us - and all of us will experience them - we can rise above them by setting our minds and our beliefs in a positive force. The storms do not have to overcome us. We can allow a positive power to lift us above them. Belief enables us to ride the winds of the storm that bring sickness, tragedy, failure and disappointment in our lives. We can soar above the storm. Remember, it is not the burdens of life that weigh us down, it is how we handle them. MaMiMoBa, I even followed my son's schoolbus over to the school on his first day in order to wave good-bye again. And, being a teacher too, I also should not have done that! It's a tough time for sure. |

PS I think flag flying is OK today at any height. This has not happened to us so who knows what protocol is. Wonder what they did after WW11?? |

Good afternoon everyone. Just returned from the boat and have browsed through some of the postings. Yes, it is a very sad day, one we will never forget or should forget. I remember driving downtown to take my little dog to the vet and the traffic was impossible. We were all at a standstill when the first plane hit the tower. Every car opened their windows and we were all talking about the incident like we were all friends. So many tears were shed, so much anger expressed, and the constant question of "WHY". My heart goes out to all the families that lost loved ones on 9/11. Cdn-Cdn thank you for that poem about the eagles flying above the storm. You couldn't have posted a better piece on this day. Going to catch up on all the news from the last few days. |

CDN-CDN--that was a great eagle poem. Thank you so much for posting it. Eagle Duo--Don't know if you saw my thank you from last night regarding your Lake Hemet eagle video. It was terrific. I've saved it to my Raptors folder. Did you post other photos--I looked in Videos & Photos last night and didn't see them? However, I did view a lot of other wonderful photos. That's such a nice section. Loved seeing the SB Zoo eagles. I enjoy each and every photo that is posted there. |

I called my dad to ask what they did after WWII and after Pearl Harbor. Personal flags were not common back then. People were still in the 'depression' state of mind and very very frugal with their money. My dad said he bought his first flag when he retired from the Navy in '58. As for government buildings, flags were flown at half mast after Pearl Harbor, but he doesn't remember for how long. Hulabird, do they fly them at half mast on December 7th in Hawaii? They don't here. After WWII was a different story. It was a time for celebration so flags were flown as high as possible. |

Morning all...so many things to respond to... MaMiMoBa: I will never forget my son's first day off to kindergarten....I was a wreck, he was just fine!! I don't think he ever looked back LOL Sandie: eat yogurt or drink kefir...it will help replace the healthy flora in your tummy that the antibiotics killed off and help your digestive system...really... it does help! Our Canadian friends: the heartwarming stories that came out of Canada on 9/11 were very healing for me then and continues to be so...God Bless you all Last night CBS aired a two hour special documentary with NO interruptions from the viewpoint of one firehouse station. I was determined NOT to get sucked into more 9/11 heartwrenching filmography but I found myself unable to pull myself away. There were a pair of brothers (French?) that had started to film and make a documentary earlier that year to follow brand new freshman firemen as they turned from boys into men...never did anyone dream how their documentary would actually end. They were like embedded with this one firehouse and right there thru it all. Whjen the actual even happened, they were each in very separate places, telling their own stories. Amazingly....they ALL made it back. I was fighting back tears so that I wouldn't lose it completely. My son kept peeking over at me to see if I was crying....you know how they are....trying to catch Mom in the act. I finally said....don't LOOK at me! And of course he continued and that's when the tears began to flow. He came over and hugged me and then I realllllly did lose it...was nice to have his comfort. On 9/11 we woke up to the news on TV and watched in horror when the first building collapsed. My son was 14 and a freshman in high school....the football coaches called him and his best buddy the Twin Towers because they were both soooo tall and big. I dropped him off at school and as I was leaving the parking lot, the news came of the second collapse....I ALMOST went back to get him and take him back home with me to keep him safe. But then I thought...it's probably best he be at school and have some sense of normalcy and deal with it with his peers rather than with his mom. The whole day I kept thinking and saying to close friends....my one and only son would be 15 in December which was way too uncomfortably close to being of military age...and then I'd burst into tears again. They all assured me it would all be OVER wayyyy before then!!! I was very doubtful. He is now approaching his 20th birthday....and it seems to be far from over. Having had two brothers of prime military age during the Viet Nam war.....I pray everyday that the draft is not reinstated. I have the upmost respect for the soldiers that are in Afghanistan and Iraq and I continually pray that somehow they can all come home to their families very very soon. My flag is flying on the front of my house. |

Good Morning Everyone... First off I want to say Happy Birthday to my Deby...she's outta town today and due back tomorrow, but we're in touch...I hope she's enjoying her special day. It's gotta be a little rough to share a day of celebration with the anniversary of this horrific act that befell, not only this nation, but the entire world as well. I was in Seattle when it happened, my room mate called me and said that we were at war, and had been attacked...I turned on the TV in time to see the first tower collapse...then the second...then got the news on the pentagon and the flight that was brought down in the field and knew our world had changed forever. I was hit especially hard, having spent 12 years driving ambulance myself, at the loss of all the emergency workers...fire, police, ambulance and of course all the others. Living close to SeaTac Airport I'll never forget not seeing a plane in the air, except for the military aircraft guarding our skies, for the days following this act of cowardness. I just wanted to share that with you all, my friends. I'm going back to lurking, and waiting for my baby to get home tomorrow. D

Ok I thought I would share this with everyone. I've always been into numbers and Deby e-mailed this to me knowing that I was and it blew my mind I do believe that some things in life have numerical association to it. For example...Dale Earnhardt the Deceased Nascar Driver, who drove the number 3 car finally won, after many years of trying, the Daytona 500 in 1998. If you divide the year he won it, by his car number you get 666. If you add his car number to the year he won it, you get 2001. The year he was killed at The Daytona 500. I always thought that was strange, and yes I figured it out myself. But then I saw this, and well...I'll let you decide for yourself. D Do you know: 1) New York City has 11 letters. 2) Afghanistan has 11 letters. 3) Ramsin Yuseb (The terrorist who threatened to destroy the Twin Towers in 1993) has 11 letters. 4) George W Bush has 11 letters. This could be a mere coincidence, but this gets more interesting: 1) New York is the 11th state. 2) The first plane crashing against the Twin Towers was flight number 11. 3) Flight 11 was carrying 92 passengers. 9+2=11. 4) Flight 77 which also hit Twin Towers, was carrying 65 passengers. 6+5=11. 5) The tragedy was on September 11, or 9/11 as it is now known. 9+1+1=11. 6) The date is equal to the US emergency services telephone number 911. 9+1+1=11. Sheer coincidence... Read on and make up your own mind: 1) The total number of victims inside all the hi-jacked planes was 254. 2+5+4=11. 2) September 11 is day number 254 of the calendar year. Again 2+5+4=11. 3) The Madrid bombing took place on 3/11/2004. 3+1+1+2+4=11. 4) The tragedy of Madrid happened 911 days after the Twin Towers incident. Now this is where things get totally eerie: The most recognised symbol for the US, after the Stars & Stripes, is the Eagle. The following verse is taken from the Quran, the Islamic holy book: "For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced: for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah and there was peace." That verse is number 9.11 of the Quran. Still uncovinced about all of this.. Try this and see how you feel afterwards, it made my hair stand on end: Open Microsoft Word and do the following: 1. Type in capitals Q33 NY. (This is the flight number of the first plane to hit one of the Twin Towers.) 2. Highlight the Q33 NY. 3. Change the font size to 48. 4. Change the actual font to the WINGDINGS What do you think now? |

While this code doesn't specifically address the question of how to fly the flag on days such as this, it does give the 'everyday' protocol.... I am constantly referring to the code and reprinting portions in a newsletter that I produce at the Marina to refresh everyone as to, especially, maritime etiquette. Our flag went up this morning when we went out to retrieve the newspaper and there was only one other on the street but I'm happy to say that they are now multiplying! The memorial steamer referred to below for flags affixed to a building is black to represent mourning and placed at the top of the staff. Excerpts from The Flag Code of the United States -- Public Law 94-344, July 7, 1976. HALF-STAFF The flag, when flown at half-staff, should be first hoisted to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff position. The flag should be again raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day. On Memorial Day, the American flag should be displayed at half-staff until noon only, then raised to the top of the staff. By order of the President, the flag shall be flown at half-staff upon the death of principal figures of the United States Government and the Governor of the State, territory or possession, as a mark of respect to their memory. In the event of the death of other officials of foreign dignitaries, the flag is to be displayed at half-staff according to presidential instructions of orders, or in accordance with recognized customs practices not inconsistent with law. In the event of the death of a present or former official of the government of any State, territory or possession of the United States, the Governor of that State, territory or possession may proclaim that the National flag shall be flown at half-staff. Flags flown on poles affixed to a home or building are not to be flown at half staff but a memorial streamer may be affixed to the top of the flagpole. |
