I am so happy to hear about the quality of the t-shirts/notecards. I have ordered both today. I have an extra copy of the DVD as of today. Has anybody watched the movie "Pay it Forward"? Does anybody have any ideas for how I can use my extra copy as a "Pay it Forward" thing?

I knew Stellar's eagle rang a BIG bell. This is off the IWS website, but the links inserted in the article cannot be acitvated in this copy. Go to IWS, click on Species, click on Birds:

Steller's Sea Eagle

The Steller’s sea eagle (Haliaeetus pelagicus) is a relative of the bald eagle and breeds only on the eastern coast of Russia.<snip>

What a wonderful thing.............. to be able to get an entire country to change it's laws to protect a bird! Bravo!!!

Good grief what a day...Hulabird.....I was so frustrated! If I had known your phone # I would have called you. First I couldn't use the keyboard so I thought turn off and back on. Then I got the keyboard and I went here and got phone call after phone call. Then decided to check email as a result of phone calls. When I turned off my puter and back on it had wiped out all my email. My jaw totally dropped. I'm glad no one could hear what I said. At least my keyboard now works so I can complain about it.

Nancy....I am so glad you went to the Dr. So it wasn't food poison??? Did he tell you what it was. Sounds like a virus sorta. Who knows what is lurking around out there. Take Joane advise and eat yogurt while on that medicine. But you should sleep for a change.

I can hardly wait until I get my Ionic Breeze I am praying that will get rid of the feathers dust in the air. I think that is what is contributing to me being sick like I am. I will NOT give up my Bernie unless I absolutely have to and there is no other way.

to all the Eastnesters: were you aware of this?? I wasn't but it's really interesting.

The Institute for Wildlife Studies recently completed a three-year project with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) concerning the ecology of both wintering and breeding bald eagles along the Hudson River. The project was conducted along approximately 150 miles of the Hudson River, from just north of New York City northward to Glens Falls. This area includes a wide variety of habitats, ranging from industrial areas to undeveloped island parks. Within this mix a small, resident eagle population has established itself, and currently consists of 6 breeding pairs. Both non-breeding and wintering eagles increase this number seasonally.

For over 100 years the Hudson River Valley has been without a breeding bald eagle population. Once common, the birds were slowly pushed out by increasing development, until 1890, when the last breeding pair was sighted. Over the next 80 years, eagle numbers steadily declined throughout New York State until 1976, when only one breeding pair remained. That year the NYSDEC began an aggressive reintroduction program, and the population has been steadily increasing ever since. However, it wasn’t until 1992 that a breeding pair was sighted along the Hudson River.

In 1998, the NYSDEC contracted the Institute to investigate the ecology of wintering and breeding eagles within the Hudson River Valley. Since 1998, Institute personnel have spent hundreds of hours observing eagles along the river to better understand eagle nesting success, habitat selection, diet, and interactions with humans. A total of 42 eagles have been captured, primarily for the collection of blood samples, which are tested for various contaminants known to be present in the Hudson River. Several of the captured eagles were equipped with satellite transmitters or conventional radio transmitters to track their movements along the river. Along with observational data, this information will allow state officials to identify potential threats to this recovering population.

I had heard of the study but didn't know it involved IWS - they keep the locations and the activity really secret! If they didn't, there would certainly be no protection for the eagles. We do camping along the Hudson with our Boy Scout Troop and in all those years, we've never seen an eagle. We have seen other birds - Hawks, etc. - but alas no eagles! (yet)

Hi Everyone --- I have just come across a really wonderful photo I thought you would all like to see!

I am visit the BBC web site most days for news and views from home and they run a photo competition over the summer months. Each week they have a new theme -- this week it was "look up". Visitors to the site can vote over the weeks and then vote for the 2 with the most votes, and the winner gtes a prize!
All the photos are taken by 'amateurs' and are just amazing so it is very hard to choose -- but this photo gets my vote!!

Go to www.bbc.co.uk. Scroll down and click News on the left hand side of the screen, when the page loads click on Photo Competition and it is photo number 12

Hey guys...I feel left out. How in the world do you get your pictures on that other place? I just got stuck looking at you all. What great photos. Amazing. And it's nice to put the face with the names. Some look quite a bit like what I picutred you as.
Lot of bravery there with the skydiving. Don't think I would be "brave" enough to do that.
And all the animal pic's are just adorable.
The kids are pretty good too.
How do I do that. Me too. Me too.
Did we not get an update today???? I was really looking forward to seeing our girl's flight path. She sure isn't at the old nest. Shes' too young for the nestorium.
I'd like to see where she has been lately.
