Saw the report the other day - wonder if they will be turned on for rebuild? |

That's not known right now I don't think - it may depend on what the bandwidth costs are. A few people have expressed interest in seeing the nest building activities (which I think would be neat to see too), and I think they will if it's viable. |

Sorry can't donate to the cause. That "other' site is painful to even visit for me after last year. All my bucks are going to IWS. |

Hulabird, have you visited the new Hancock House forum at Hancock Wildlife Channel Forum? The new forum has been setup under the control and administration of HH, and is no longer being run by Infotec. Infotec has their own new forums going, but I haven't gone over there too much. The new HH forum has been setup with a good large group of moderators and everyone is committed to keeping the site well run and under control (I myself am helping to administer the site). Of course anyone here would be more than welcome to visit. I don't think there has been any specific request for fundraising for bandwidth costs for the nest building season at this time, although of course Hancock House can always use funding like everyone else. IWS is the first priority for folks here so there's of course no pressure for folks to do. |

Ostrich, I totally respect your participation in the other site (and the new site as well). And I know they have new rules on both sites (so far, it doesn't seem like there is any enforecement going on). But for me, the IWS site has remained pure and without that other stuff going on. Also, I will probably watch all the nests next year. But IWS owns me now for donations because of what we were last year. There is going to be a lot of competition on webcams next year. May the nest man win! (Dr Sharpe and VCOE, PAY ATTENTION!) |

Yes, the group here is a special one (I think partially due to the fact that in a strange way it didn't get the huge press attention that the Hornby nest did, and thus was fortunate not to attract any troublemakers). If you choose to support IWS, that's great. Just want to make sure that folks here know that they're certainly welcome to visit if they wish. |

I didn't come along to HH until way after whatever happened had taken place. I know whatever it was sure caused a major divide and that's too bad. Participating here with everyone and supporting IWS has been great and I have enjoyed every minute! The folks here are so special. Knowing or not knowing the history, I can truly appreciate that each person is entitled to their belief and choice! I do go back and forth but 80% of my effort (and nearly all my $$) are at IWS because of all of the forum participants/friends! And I've got my chair ready and my monitor clean so that I can be ready for every moment of nest rebuild and not miss a thing - I'm so sorry I didn't get hooked up earlier this year - I missed soooooo much! |

Harpo, loved that! That's how I feel, too! I'll certainly look into the Hancock and other cams every now and then, but I already know that most of my time will be devoted to the Santa Cruz nest. I don't know why except to say that this has been one heck of a ride on the thermals with all of you and I've enjoyed every second of it. Thank's Ostrich for trying to help on the other forum. I hope you guy's have a really great nesting season coming. From what I read, you all deserve it so. |

bea: yeah, I have truly enjoyed this group and am so glad I "accidentally" ended up here! Just love it - everyone is so caring: about the eagles, about each other, about everything!!! Truly enjoy it! |

What happened on the other forum that caused the great divide? |

A combination of things. One was the incredible and widespread publicity of the Hornby cam, which attracted very large numbers of people as compared to here. And as with anything, the more people you have involved, the greater the chances of conflicts or issues. The other thing was that Infotec (not entirely their fault - the forum and the cam itself weren't actually their primary business and they had customers to take care of) had nobody moderating or controlling the forum at all. This allowed this to spiral out of control in a lot of places on the board and caused a lot of unpleasantness for some. I personally tended by luck or good management stuck to a couple of threads where there were not any issues. In some ways this group is lucky because it's relatively small. That's what allows such a family and friendly atmosphere to thrive here virtually without any need for moderating at all. It's kind of a conundrum - the folks here are devoted to spreading the word about the Channel Island eagles and the support of IWS. But at some point too much attention could be too much of a good thing, and if there were a huge spike in the popularity of the cam it might overwhelm the techincal capabilities of providing it. It may be the way folks are doing it, trying to spread the word by word of mouth is perfect - it gets IWS more donations and support but keeps the sense of community with this group. Kind of like the family run restaurant that you don't want to see get bought out by a big chain. |

Ostrich, thank you for your explanation above. I love your comparison of the family run restaurant. That's what I feel here. A closeness to every member like they are family. I hope we always stay this way. |

Thanks for the reply, Ostrich2. That must have been why I didn't stay on the other forum and returned here. The "feel" of this forum is much different. I agree with Bea -- great analogy to the family-run restaurant. Thanks again! |
