I agree, we are very lucky to have these creatures in our sky-yards.

OOOHHH Another Cruzism, sky-yards - bird activity in our own yards.

Ojai hikers So sorry to hear of your friend's dog. Owls are known to pick up small rabbits so a small dog would be just as easy. I remember last year in my own backyard my kitties were out and something swooped down because I saw it out of the corner of my eye. Needless to say the kitties were in like a flash a quite scared. Great Horned Owls are very big a powerful and could easily pick up a small dog. They do not distinguish the difference between animals domestic or not. Food is food for a bird of prey.

Woohoo! I just got my T-shirt and notecards today. I just ordered them 3 days ago!! Wow, Dr Sharpe, that was fast! And they are beautiful. I couldn't possibly send these notecards out to anybody. All of them are framable works of art. OMG, they are gorgeous! Who took those pictures? I'll bet it was either Dave or Chris. And can you introduce us all to the precious little owls?

Beautiful Saturday in Sydney, heading out to the garden shortly to battle the weeds, flies (who are oh so friendly...) and the mozzies, gotta find my insect spray. We also have very serious ticks... one got in on the top of my head one year, ugh, and one almost killed my cat and one of my dogs - paralysis ticks.
Focusing on the good side, I have posted some Aussie birds on the Video thread! Spring is in the air and the birds are really noisy.

Ojai hikers- good news about the no-go development but sorry to read about your friend's dog - I am SURE that is what took my kitty last year as there was an owl sitting on my mailbox the evening she disappeared.... :(

Everyone, have a nice cruzy weekend.

One of my construction guys picked up a dead owl, freshly killed, on the road in Malibu mountains today and put it in his truck. He now learns that it's illegal to have this bird carcass (he's not Native American), but he's going to keep it anyway. Apparently it's going into his freezer, may find a taxidermist to look the other way. I saw the body, what a magnificent bird. Not sure how it died...

I wonder, when someone does come across something like this, what are you supposed to do?

I'm glad you like the shirt and notecards. The notecards are all photos that I've taken on Catalina Island. The bald eagle landing at the nest was taken this year when I fostered the chick into the Twin Rocks nest. The chick is actually in the nest, but hidden behind a log. The fox is our education island fox, Tachi. The eagle chick was one fostered into a nest this year, but I can remember which one off-hand. Probably the West End. The owls are saw-whets. The one perched on a branch was one that was brought to me by some people that found it on the ground and were afraid cats were going to get it. I took care of it for a few days and then released it (it was just a recent fledlging). The owlets were in a nest box and the photo was taken before I banded them.

I plan to mix up the photos on the cards each time we have a new printing so that there are always new ones.

Karen, if you haven't done it already, how about putting this is What are your Questions? I would really like to know, also. Good question.

I also received my shirts today. I just love them. My 18 month old great neice saw them and said mine? I had to explain to her they did not have one in her size. Has anyone heard if there are any plans to make children's sizes?

I've started a discussion with Eagle Guy about women's T-shirts, we haven't talked about children's shirts. The problem is he has to come up with money up front to buy inventory. They don't have a lot of money floating around...

Ok I know I will be the last post of the day. I have been busy out there and no where near a computer. I was repulsed and revolted over the idea of the little dog. Owl or no owl...bad owl. Ok food....I understand. Poor friend whoever it was..iv've forgotten.

WOW those pictures are incredible. Wish I knew how to do that. Maybe someday I'll figure it out.

Went car shopping today. Whew too many options....too many cars. Decisions, decisions, decisions. I want that and I want that and I want that and more $ and more $.

I am hoping you are all right about that owl. Does that mean it won't come back now. I wish I knew who the heck that was. They would get a tongue lashing from me. And I'm pretty good at that if I do say so myself. Poor Owl. I hope he is safe and ok. :(

Anyone know how Eagle D is. How is the job going. Boy a new girl then a new job too....what a life.

Okay. Enough from me for the night. Hope everyone is feeling great in the morning. Especially you Nancy...get a good night's rest and feel much much better.

Night Night Cruz where ever you are.

Owls are beautiful birds and deserve our protection, all species of owls in the western US are endangered. The only reason they pick up our small pets is because us humans have encroached on their indigenous hunting grounds...

I said this last night, but the IWS note cards featured photos of owls nesting on the Channel Islands and I would like to see an Owl nestcam next year, if they have the money to introduce one.
