Lana, you are soo right. We need to be prepared, and I for one know I'm not :o . I have some emergency stuff for earthquakes and things, but if someone woke me up in the middle of the night to evacuate, all that would end up going is hubby, dog, kitty in the carrier and me and not much else.

Just went outside. 11pm here in Camarillo, and boy the smell of fire and smoke is really strong. Have a friend in Santa Paula (mountain area) and am getting worried about her. Think I'll give her a call to see how she's doing.

We played the Eagles DVD for them first and Jann set up GoodSearch for them.  We probably bored them to tears with eagle talk all day but they are very good friends and humored us by pretending to be interested.

Aww, Dave, I'm sure you didn't bore them! Who in their right minds could be bored by such a magnificent story as this?

I don't know. I did notice several times they seemed to make largely futile attempts to change the subject.

LOL, the subject is NOT to be changed until we have sold a DVD, T-shirt, notecards, cap, or straight donation. Never forget the reason why we fundraise for these eagle.

If nothing else we did set GoodSearch as their home page.

I think every little bit matters. Even if their interest didn't seem to be held, they got the info and I bet it sunk in somewhere, if only subconsciously. So maybe they'll hear about an eagle or (even better) see one, and a light will come on...

You are so right Lana. And Eagle Duo, you did the right thing for setting them up iwth Goodseaarch. I do that on all customer's computers now and make it their default search engine.. Now I need to tell them about proper search engine techniques to make sure IWS gets full credit.

Hulabird, you are the best. How did the swap meet go. Anything good?

KLJinUSA I have pic's on my computer of our day at the beach. That was certainly fun. Give the puppy a big hug from me. I am Boo sitting until Lynne gets back tomorrow. He sure hasn't missed many meals, that's for sure!

Bea, you need to be prepared. I would take my bird and computer and everything else is in the car. The only reason to take the puter is cause the pictures are all on there. I have med's, bird food, little water, little food, little money, few clothes and HULABIRD'S phone number!!! I am all set.

 I sent off some pages to my author/editor friend. I found out today she edits for some big publishing co in New York.... I didn't know that. Now I'm scared

Did someone mention merlot?? Oh, never mind. Time to go to bed. Maybe tomorrow night.

Regarding telling/showing people about IWS, I learned people have to see/hear about something 3 times before it really registers with them. This is one of the things taught by Creative Memories, the scrapbook company. So EalgeDuo if you set up Goodsearch and played the video, that's once! Two more to go!

HulaB you are so sweet and caring and generous with yourself and your time!

I think we all probably need to finish getting our emergency things organized so we can put our hands on them in the event we need to evacuate, God forbid. I started to gather things and then kind of got complaisant and forgot all about it. On my list of things to take in an evacuation are my 2 cats, medications, water and food, first aid stuff, and my photo's. Mine are partially in albums, not on the computer. I guess I should grab the computer too. Boy, that list got long very quickly.......!

I guess I'd better call it a night too. I am getting up early tomorrow to take #2 grandson for his 3rd driving lesson. He just got his learners permit and starts "official" driving lessons Tuesday after school.

Was gonna write this last night, but Dave sent his tidbit 2 seconds before me, so I got flood controlled and then my computer froze, so I turned it off and went to bed. :P

Don't listen to Dave....he can be such a tease sometimes! Our friends were very interested.....they were commenting and asking questions all the way thru the video and while playing cards......when we stopped long enough for them to get a word in edgeways! lol No, really, they were interested. We told them about the forum and how we've adopted 6 nests so far thru contributions and are hoping to adopt 8, etc. I've sent her the website in her e-mail so she can read more. And every time they use GoodSearch, it will be a reminder to them.

Okay....with that said, I can go read the other threads and say an official good morning. :D

Ok...trying to catch up on all the threads from last night.

Thanks for the Ventura livecam...never knew about that one!

Also...great link to the fire update...wow it's really moving close...Matilija Canyon...yikes! I remember the big Ojai fire about 15 years ago or so where I could see the glow of the fire up over the ridge. That fire came within 6 miles of where I lived in Carpinteria. I was ready to evacuate....my hubby told me to go to bed and get some sleep and he'd wake me if the fire came over the ridge. I woke up to find him sound asleep....some sentarian he turned out to be!! Fortunately, it all turned out ok for us.

Last I heard yesterday, the fire was at the entrance of the Condor Sanctuary but not yet threatening it...sure hope it's ok and they fight hard to keep it away from there.
