Good Morning! Can you transfer my post over here? I put it on "Who Are You, etc" at 7:09 this morning because no one had posted here yet. Thanks a lot.

This is from HelenB:

Just went outside and it looks like Santa Barbara has a dusting of snow, but unfortunately it is ash from the fire(s). The sun is red, and it would probably be a nice scene if I wasn't so upset about the wildlife it is affecting.

Could someone put this in the appropriate thread. Thanks.

Oh, and everybody have a HAPPY DAY :D

Dog's Diary vs. Cat's Diary
As seen in a dog's diary:

7 am - Oh boy! A walk! My favorite!
8 am - Oh boy! Dog food! My favorite!
9 am - Oh boy! The kids! My favorite!
Noon - Oh boy! The yard! My favorite!
2 pm - Oh boy! A car ride! My favorite!
3 pm - Oh boy! The kids! My favorite!
4 pm - Oh boy! Playing ball! My favorite!
6 pm - Oh boy! Welcome home, Mom! My favorite!
7 pm - Oh boy! Welcome home, Dad! My favorite!
8 pm - Oh boy! Dog food! My favorite!
9 pm - Oh boy! Tummy rubs on the couch My favorite!
11 pm - Oh boy! Sleeping in my people's bed! My favorite!

As seen in a cat's diary:

Day 183 of my captivity... My captors continued to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction that I get from clawing their furniture.

Tomorrow I will eat another houseplant.

Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded - must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair. I must remember to try this on their bed.

Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body in an attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear in their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was... Hmmm, that did not work according to plan.

There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the food. More important, I overheard that my confinement was due to my powers of inducing "allergies." I must learn what this is and how I may use it to my advantage.

I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird, on the other hand, has got to be an informant and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room, his safety is assured. But I have patience, I can wait, it is only a matter of time...

Hi All
The cat and dog story is just so typical. Too funny

I am hoping my friends in Santa Paula do not have to evacuate. Just in the past 1/2 hour the wind has gotten much worse. It is very ugly here, a huge reddish cloud of smoke is slowly but surely covering the sky and Bernie is pacing in his cage making loud chirps. I am wondering what he knows that I don't.

Hi Sandie and everyone else with birds. They are very sensitive to smoke. If you're in the fire area, please close your windows and run the exhaust fan over your stove. If need be, cover the bird cage.

Thanks for the update, Sandi. We're having a hard time getting much info about the fire down here. I remember too well how scary it was here a couple years ago with the Big Bear fires. I hope the winds don't hamper their efforts too badly and that it doesn't cause too much more damage. I too understand it's part of nature, but when it's caused by human carelessness or stupidity (such as throwing a lit cigarette out a car window), I'm the first one up on a soapbox. I'll step down....for now!

Thanks again for the update. Let us know if you hear anything new!

I just took a walk around outside. Little ground animals are scurring around. One stopped and looked at me as if for answeres. It was very small....scared. I shudder to think how they must feel closer to the fire.
Toward Santa Paula there looks like a new smoke plume. Haven't heard anything except they are considering evacuations of Fillmore, Piru and Santa Paula. I have a good friend that lives in the foothills of Santa Paula and if the fire were to hit there she would be in trouble as there is only one path in and out. She may already be gone. The wind is calmer, that's one good thing.
I think I will cover Bernie, Hulabird. He's pacing a lot in the bottom of his cage, not that he doesn't do that anyway. I just don't want him to smell this smoke more than he has to. I have no working exhaust fan in the kitchen. So that won't work. Windows are closed and the fan is on. Wish that Ionic Breeze had come already!!!

Here's an update about the 'Day Fire' that is very worrisome.... posted just 2 hours ago on NBC4.tv, it restates something I heard on the 11 O'Clock news last night that Ojai residents are being urged to evacuate....

Day Fire Doubles Overnight
Homes In Ventura County Threatened

POSTED: 10:25 am PDT September 17, 2006
UPDATED: 10:32 am PDT September 17, 2006

CASTAIC, Calif. -- A wildfire burning for the past 13 days more than doubled in size overnight as Santa Ana winds fanned the flames, prompting Ventura County officials to warn residents of Fillmore, Santa Paula and Ojai.

The fire has burned 80,015 acres and as of Sunday was just 15 percent contained, said Joe Pasinato of the Los Padres National Forest Information Center. The fire had been 30 percent contained Saturday, but the tinder-dry weather caused the fire to spread.

"We had an increase of over 50,000 acres last night," Pasinato said.

The area around the Golden State (5) Freeway was well contained and considered very low risk, he said. Last week, the fire threatened to jump the freeway, which was closed several times.

"In the I-5 corridor area, there's virtually no threat there now," he said. "That line of the fire has been tied in real well."

The Ventura County Sheriff's Department urged residents of Fillmore, Ojai and Santa Paula to evacuate.

More than 1,800 people were battling the blaze, with dozens of firefighters arriving overnight with engines, mainly to protect area structures, Pasinato said.

No homes have been lost since the fire started near Castaic on Labor Day.

Winds out of the north and northwest were expected to be blowing up to 25 mph Sunday, with stronger gusts below passes and canyons. Coupled with low relative humidity, that could spell disaster.

I see that Ojai Hikers checked in at 9:17 this morning but Linda hasn't been on-line with us since last night a little after 7 pm...... Anyone 'in touch' with her as in via telephone?
