I am so sorry to hear that our friends and their animals in Ventura and Santa Barbara are having to deal with so much smoke and ash. Definitely not good for the body! It was horrible when we had all those wildfires two years ago but I don't think that was as bad as it is for you folks today.

Now there's talk of evacuation??? Holy cow!

Here's a site I found with some good fire info, for this fire and all of the others. Choose the Day CA fire from the box at the upper right. You can zoom in on the map to see the area.

(I'm sorry I can't figure out how to make this appear as a direct link! Can someone please PM or email me directions for the future?)

I hope all of you are okay!!! :(

OK, I guess it did post as a link. Never mind!
But I forgot to mention the first step to see a map of a particular fire: click on the middle box that says "Wildfire Mapping," then go to the "Jump to Wildfire" box in the upper right

Here's another link that lists the evacuation news.

How awful! I know we have some members who live in Ojai. Please let us know asap if you are okay!

I'm so glad to see that this emergency alert is posting info about large and small animals and where to find shelter for them.

Glad to hear the wind has died down a little so they can hopefully get in there with some planes/helicopters to try to contain it some before nightfall.

Here's a postcard our friends showed us last night that they just received. Was so cute, I just had to share it with ya'll.

Hi Sandie,
I assume you're talking about the link to the map. I wish I was more computer savy so I could post a map here for a better frame of reference. I did save the photo of the map and opened it up under My Pictures, and it gave much more detail. Just don't know how to put that here, despite all of the lessons from our board members (Heck, I can barely work the remote for our tv!).
I think it would probably be easier to find another map that lists the points of reference. But in general, the red line under the fire area is Hwy 126, the red line to the far left is Hwy 150. The think red line running next to the fire area is I-5.

ALERT: The doctor of a friend in Santa Barbara with respiratory problems just got a call from her doctor to close all her windows and doors....said the air quality is as bad as it gets!! My eyes started burning about an hour ago and that's with everything closed up. The smoke is verrrrrrrry bad here right now.

Sandie: if you have an exhaust fan in your bathroom, you could turn that one on and it would probably help.

It feels like the fire is already upon us.. orange glow everywhere you look, and the ash from last night was everywhere..You can't see the mountains.. I actually had lunch in Ojai and the restaurant was empty... Suzanne's ... Usually packed on Sunday... Drove up towards the mountains and found the CHP stopping everyone at Fairview.. Happy about that as we don't need any "crazies" up there adding to the problems. At 60 miles per hour, it is just moving right along. Glad to be inside now for the day. Lets hope the fire doesn't change direction and come into the valley.

Having lunch while the hills are burning and the town in ashes seems frivolous but was birthday lunch for my 90 year old mother and a sister and my mom was so looking forward to it. My kitties are all inside. I've had to evacuate two other times in my life and the last time they stopped the fire 500 yards from my house. I even had my own firetruck assigned to our house (from Sacramento) and they stayed with us all night... I'll never forget those guys...

Hulabird - Good idea about covering the bird cages. If no other pets in the house, it might help to put the cages on the floor where less smoke. I notice both of my cats have moved from the furniture to the floor.

I'm sure all of us on the West Coast would appreciate any updates we can get, since local news won't come on until 4:30 at the earliest. It's like we don't exist on the weekends ;)

RE: covering birds for the fire/smoke, it is also helpful to dampen the cover as it will also keep them cooler if you havent got an air-con (or dont want to turn it on.

We get terrible fires in Oz, last autumn the local fire brigade did a backburn across the road from us and forgot to tell us, I had to run outside to bring in the laundry (I hang up my clothes rather than using a dryer when possible).

I hope everyone stays safe and well.

With fires and wind, nothing is sure or safe.. My son said a week ago that he thought the fire would make it to Ojai as there was nothing in the way to stop it.
I thought he was crazy even thinking that as it was so far away.. now, its on the doorstep.

just walked outside again and the sky is just dark! If any of you are aware of where I live...Telegraph, Wells and Foothill Rd area it looks very ominous. Facing Foothill Rd is much worse than a short time ago. Lots more smoke. They just came on the news and said people in Fillmore are being asked to evacuate. They have lost 50% of what they had contained last night. Over 125 square miles have burned.
My fan in the bathroom is also a heater...don't want that! It's funny there is very little smoke "raining" from the sky. Not like before at least. Maybe the wind is blowing it away from us here.
