Just finished watching our local tv, and what a disppointment they continue to be (just like our newspaper that I just cancelled). For any locals, be sure and tune in to channel 12, rather than SB 3. Since we don't get channel 7 in SB

ALERT - Just in from Castaic on FOCUS the fire is in the Conder Sanctuary!!!

To continue, since we don't get channel 7, we locals have to wait until 8:00 pm for channel 9 to give us any complete details.

FOCUS was talking to some fireman at Castaic, so that is the only reason I tend to believe what is being said.

Lana - thanks for giving us the helpful info. My brother lives in Canyon Country too, so I'm sure you have seen more than your share of fire scares. Castaic
is practically in your backyard (almost) and that seems to be a frequent brush fire area. I'm always callling him when I hear about that area.

Stay safe everyone. If it continues, I will also volunteer space at my place (even little furry stalkers like on "Men in Trees" :D )

Helen, That's the space for people to sleep in, safe from the fire!

We had a smoke drift over Ventura most of the day, blocked out the sun. We had no wind here, but I understand from the news reports the Santa Ana's were blowing in the area of the fire. This evening, ash is falling. Here's a picture I took from the VCS webcam about an hour ago.

To my Ojai friends, be safe...

Just wanted to ask if anyone knows if cdn-cdn was going on vacation, as she hasn't had any activity on the forum, according to the members stats, since September 12th....??

Teddy Neal/Helen B I feel better already. That's a nice little space to curl up in. I hope OjaiHikers tells us how she is.

A fire engine just went screaming by my place...to where I wonder

Karen...How'd you do that? I wondered what the sunset would look like tonight

I'm sending my good thoughts to all you people in the fire zone and my appreciation for the selflessness of those who are offering shelter. I think you all need to jump in the car, haul it over to Eagle Duo's house and have a big ole slumber party and plenty of inner peace.

cdn's son plays football and I think their season started last week...that MAY be keeping them busy?

sandie: click here to see the current sunset from Ventura....very unspectacular as it is totally obscured by smoke!

To all in Ventura/Santa Barbara Counties threatened by the fires. My best wishes and hopes that none of you have to evacuate. As far as the Condors, they are smart enough to evacuate, the burn off is a natural process (even if started by a selfish idiot this time) The Yucca Valley fires were started by lightening. The smoke has started to come south and I can't see anything but a red ball at the beach. I can also feel the smoke/ash with my allergies. Please remember to take your irreplacable family papers, passports, birth certificates, marriage licenses, bank cards and some checks and the family bible, or photo albums. It will be difficule to replace these. Of course anything living goes first. Also bring bottled water for washing eyes, and for the animals. My sister also packed some bird, dog and cat treats for coaching an upset animal to eat.

My prayers are with you. I have spent a fair amount of time in Santa Paula, Fillmore and Ojai, and I mourn to think that they will be forever changed.

Please let us know if we can help.

HB: EagleDuos are actually in the area where the new smaller fires have broken out....not to mention being a couple hours drive from here.

I think everyone should come to Santa Barbara County....although you'll have to stay inside. It's supposed to be in the 80's on the coast tomorrow....yuck!!!

Hulabird - nice idea about EagleDuo, but I think that's Riverside and they have TWO fires - no the mainland isn't going up in smoke. Since we haven't had any news locally, I don't know the status of their fires.

Hello all...Oh my what I have missed today. My thoughts and prayers go out to all that are in or near the fires. Please stay safe. Reminds me of the terrible one we had up here in the Oakland Hills that one year. I knew the other day when those winds whip up they can cause havoc. The wildlife will head to safe ground and so should the people when told to do so. I will keep all in my prayers tonight.
