ED: I hear you! My niece has a 9 mos old. Apparently last week he discovered "under the couch" so she's now keeping the house much cleaner. After she removed him from that new endeavor - he discovered dog food and water bowl in the kitchen!! Now that gate is up 24 hrs a day! And he's not walking yet - I told her - it only gets better!!!!

My 30 year old way back when, used to think the toilet was for giving her dolls a bath! Argh.... that was so disgusting! and she was a climber - we had more teddy bears than the ER at the hospital - I used to make big donations to the fund because we had all the bears at our house!!! :D

Had to laugh & empathize at your niece, Harpo. Leyla has done most of that. They are just so curious which is a good thing, but it sure can be exhausting for the adult caring for them. And you're right. it only gets better!!! :o  ;)

I just watched part of the 'Champions of the Wild - Bald Eagles' show I TIVO'd this morning and so far I'm really impressed. Leyla was watching it with me too. She loves bald eagles. Did I mention that her mom can't break an egg in front of her any more cuz Leyla thinks she's hurting baby eagles when she does? :o

Well, Leyla and I are off to get our errands done before it gets too hot and we have to pick the boys up from school, so I'll see ya'll later! Those in the fire/smoke area, the air quality is still bad even though you see sky. It takes a few days for the particles to dissipate, so be careful.

Good morning everyone. Here is something from our local Santa Barbara TV news station:

"Not only are people evacuating, pets are too. Twenty-six horses are calling the Humane Society in Ojai home. Their owners evacuated and brought them to the emergency animal shelter to be cared for. Evacuees also brought in several cats and even a bunny that was feeling the "Day Fire's" ripple effect.

The following are a list of animal shelter sites as of Sunday:
For large animals you can go to "The Meadows" at 8333 Waters Road in Moorpark, for small animals there is a shelter at 670 West Los Angeles Avenue in Simi Valley, and for both large and small animals you can go to the animal shelter facility at the end of Bryant Road in Ojai."

Glad to see that the animals have been taken care of.

Does anyone know what is going on with the Sespe Condor Preserve. I can't seem to get any info on this. I know that the fire is dangerously close but has it affected the birds or the facility? I am very worried about the condors.
The ash and smoke was so bad at my house over the weekend that we just stayed in the house and watched sports and movies.

Troth - Word yesterday was the fire had reached the sanctuary, but the birds were gone a day or two before. Hope this puts your mind at ease.

Anyone in the Santa Barbara area, watch channel 12 or 9 at noon. Maybe we will get some good news.

Have a happy.............

Monday Monday.....
Another day inside but it seems a bit better than yesterday. It cooled down into the low 50s last night which gives some relief and the air doesn't seem as thick with smoke although it's definitely still here. Just went out to get some water going on the flower beds and saw the big layer of ash on my car....came right back inside where I couldn't see it....or breathe it. The onshore flow of air is supposed to return tonight which should help with the fires.

Last I heard, the fire is 12 miles east of Ojai and 10 miles from Santa Paula. Parts of Hwy 33 and 150 remain closed.

helenb: congratulations on starting your first thread!! Soon you'll be posting photos!

I worry about the animals that have been evacuated but are still in areas of unhealthy air quality. My cat keeps wanting to go out and comes right back in after about 2 mins. Now that I think about it...I haven't seen nor heard any birds in a couple of days. I guess they know how to fly low and be safe wherever they have gone.

I opened up my barrel of rain water to fill my watering can and a tree frog climbed up the side...followed by a little tiny baby frog....tooooo cute! I love froggies.

For fire updates, the sheriff's dept site seems to be more current. Fire Dept. hasn't updated their site since yesterday...probably too busy?? Here is the site KCLU (local npr station) is recommending to people for updated info. regarding evacuations, etc.

Hi everyone I am back from the pool. It is blue sky straight above but very "heavy" air toward the mountain. This morning/afternoon there is a lot of ash on my car and plants. All my windows are closed, Bernie is still covered and I'm not going out until I have to. Got to go to LAX tonight if my friends plane ever takes off from Memphis. It's been delayed over 2 hours so far because of weather
Jeesh!!!

I discovered Jacquie Lawson cards 3, maybe 4, years when she was relatively new in the biz of e-cards - animal devotees that you all are, you may already be familiar with her 'Chudleigh' series featuring her labs in interactive settings (such as making it snow and turning on the lights on the Christmas tree) - my friends EXPECT her cards now for various events - she does a new one or two each year for certain holidays and now more generic celebrations - the last time I renewed it was just $8 for the year - well worth the artistry, not to mention the 'immediacy' and postage savings - oh, and, yes... isn't the Eagle just fabulous!

HI everyone. I'm hoping everyone is safe and well.
It is not as smoky today in Santa Barbara. No red sky this morning.
Those Jacquie Lawson cards are wonderful. She only charges $8.00yr.
Have a great day.

Boy that is a nice card

I am recruiting some people to participate in a survey in Ventura tomorrow. The Gas Company gave me a list of people to call from but if there is anyone that has a free hour tomorrow they will pay $75 to participate....yes that figure is correct for ONE HOUR. Call me if you would like to do it and I'll check the list. It's regarding energy issues......672-2425. If the line is busy it's because I am on it..just call back or use my cell 844-6684. All they want is your opinion.
