The Jaquie Lawson card was beautiful! I've never heard of her before. I'm glad to hear Bixby is not a missing person, but only on vacation. I had a slight panic attack re Ojailala a week ago until some told me she was camping @ Lake Castaic... ! I was trying to get her to reply on our SC trip. We need to watch over each other! Naturegal, the eagle photos were awesome, thank you for posting them. The smoke and ash subsided today from the Ventura area, although it dumped quite a bit of ash last night. But the fire is still HUGE and I could see the the plume of smoke in the active area as I drove down the Conejo Grade this evening. Looks like an atom bomb! NBC4.TV had viewer photos posted up, they were better than the news media photos. |

Better you than me! LAX is a nightmare....at least I think it is. Last time I drove to LAX, I ended up going blind.....literally.....for 30 seconds while driving 65 mph on the freeway! Doctors said it was from the stress of going to LAX. Won't do that again! Fortunately, we live closer to Ontario Airport anyways, so I tell everyone to either come into it or take a bus! Drive carefully and have a good time with your friend! Don't forget to bring the Eagles of Catalina DVD with you.

Peppermint - Thanks for the bump. I will spend my evening browsing thru it. Suggestion - Maybe someone can add "Tech" somewhere under questions for easier reference. Anyway, Peppermint, is it something I would go back to Dell for or what about Comp USA? Can I get microsoft word on a CD? As you can see, I'm bubbling over with questions. Yes, I'm still planning on computer class at SBCC, but current obligations limit my time right now. Thanks for your patience. Channel 9 at 8:00 was saying there were more voluntary evacuations this afternoon in the Ojai area. So what's the latest? |

The Lockwood Valley area is under recommended evacuation. It's not mandatory, but when the fire dept knocks on your door and says you need to skidaddle, it's a good idea to listen to them. |

helenb: you can buy Microsoft Word online or at any of the office or computer stores. Staples, Office Max, Comp USA etc. Then be sure and take an adult ed MS Word class sometime. You will be amazed at allll the stuff you can do with it. |

I don't think I was aware of that. Could you describe the photo? We actually have a high resolution camera on the nest (520 lines), but was explained above, going to something that can be streamed on the internet greatly decreases resolution. We hope to have zoom and maybe even pan/tilt capabilities next season, so that some more close-up shots would be possible. |

Hulabird - thought I could just get away with being a lurker ( as she looks for a red-faced smilie ). I live in a small town in B.C. with my husband and three cats. I just wanted to say that I love reading all the postings and truly marvel at how many good people there are here . I also lurk on another eagle forum and between the two I have gained such an appreciation of birds , wildlife in general , and the people who come together to discuss them and end up being so supportive of each other.I also love all the photographs everyone posts. I will now go back to my corner and lurk.

My youngest grandbaby is also 9 mos. old and I let her keep the floors clean. Just tuck a Swifter cloth in her bib and let her go!!  Also, we have 3 gates up and that's the only aerobic exercise I get now ..... climbing over them. Even better with a kid in your arms!! |

David Hancock's book, The Bald Eagle of Alaska, BC, and Washington has a couple of photos, one is a shot of a Santa Cruz hacking tower, credited to Donna Sharpe, and another is a picture of two young eaglets in a box ready to be fostered into a nest, credited to Peter Sharpe. There is another shot of a nest with an adult and two eaglets, presumably one of the Catalina nest, but the caption doesn't say exactly which one in might be, credit to Peter Sharpe. |

Naturegal, those are some amazing clouds! I would probably freak out if I looked up and saw that in the sky. Good to know they don't foretell a tornado or storm. Do they only occur in the midwest? |

OK, I know it's late and most forum members are in bed, but I wanted to post this anyway.... Looks like a huge change from yesterday's satellite photo, although that's still a lot of smoke for our Ventura and Santa Barbara County friends! Looks like there's cleaner air out on Santa Cruz Island at least. ...doesn't that one cloud look like a giant jellyfish creeping up on the lower islands? Here's the site for future reference: http://activefiremaps.fs.fed.us/imagery.ph...eID=ca-lpf-2023 ![]() |
